WANTED: SDA's for Carverfest.....

For this year's Carverfest we would like to introduce the SDA's. Seeing as how I have only heard a handful of them, which model(s) are generally considered the best overall representative of the SDA's? Any and all comments and/or links of threads that can assist my question are welcome.
Things are going good enough right now to where I might be able to purchase a pair, but if that can't happen I am asking for a volunteer to either join us at Carverfest or loan me a set of SDA's that will be setup for this event. The location is on the NC/Tenn. border about halfway up or down, depending on how you look at it, right off of Highway 74 - 7 miles from the border.
The dates for the event are Sept. 10-15th and this is when I will need to purchase the speakers by, or when I will need to borrow the pair. Thank you.

SRS II's.
Ok....I'm partial since the amp I got from you just kicks major **** on them. Unfortunately, I'm too far away to attend. Someone out there just has to have a set! They are like the best of all the worlds of all that is SDA. At least that's what I understand...Richard? Who's your favorite Little Rascal? Alfalfa? Or is it........................Spanky?.................................Sinner. -
CRS+ are good (espically 4.1TL ), but don't have the visual impact of the larger models.

There's just something that makes me giggle when I read the phrase "Carverfest". Rock on!
I have a pair of stock CRS+(w/ Stands) you can borrow but the old man would have to pick them up if he's attending.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -

Well I know that we will have Mark's old 1C's [IIRCC] and a pair of 1A's there, but I am hoping that one of the highly regarded SDA's can make it. Plus, from what I understand, the earlier models have an inherent issue that was corrected by Polk in later SDA models. Not quite sure what the issues were at this point, but I'm sure I'll find out soon enough.
Thanks Mark, I appreciate the offer. I don't know if he is going to make it at this point or not. I know that he is planning on it, but I'm sure that business schedules will dictate whether or not this will happen. We'll see. If he does come, I will gladly take you up on your offer.
This year we are planning to have at least 8 full rigs up and running in all of the cabins and many of the attendees have not gotten their ears on the SDA's yet, so for this years event we will do what we can to insure that they do experience the SDA's. Last year the only Polks that were present were the RTi10's, the PSW1000 and the LSi9's.~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. That's enough SDA to get the idea. Is this a religious conversion event or an audio meet. Shouldn't it be about Carver and not Polk?CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Do we only have Polk products at PF? I think not.Political Correctness'.........defined

Correct, but I don't recall requests for Carver products on the menu...ever. It makes sense to me but YMMV with the plethora of Carver products you have in-house. The coolness will wear off of both of those other folks eventually.

There have been requests for non-Polk gear at PF's. But, I'm sure you already knew that.
What I have or don't have is of no concern to anyone but me.
Why assume things? Just because the coolness wore off for you doesn't mean anyone else feels or will feel that way.
Certainly does appear to be a cool location.Political Correctness'.........defined

Not everyone hates the SDA technology as much as you do Mark. Some people are still intrigued by listening to them!

I think the 1C's would be a better choice than the 1A's. The SDA's with the horizontal tweeters are not the best representation of what SDA is all about. Mark's CRS's and the 1C's would be excellent. Obviously if you can borrow a pair of the "big boys" that would be cool too.
Since you already have a pair of 1C's and the offer for the CRS's I'd say that will impress even the most jaded SDA skeptic or someone who has never experienced SDA. The CRS's are amazing for book shelf speakers. Just make sure they are set-up to give the optimal performance.

The 1A's have horizontal tweeters the inner tweeter has normal output; the outer tweeter is a dimensional tweeter. This was later dropped because in all models on a good number of recordings the sound could become phasey and the soundstage is unnaturally spread all over the room and behind you.
Polk later determined the dimensional info could be more effective limited to a narrow band of frequencies coming from the mid driver(s) and eliminated the dimensional tweeter. I believe 1A's have the side by side tweeter set-up; which is less than ideal compared to the later models like the 1C.

One last thing to consider is all SDA's need to be run on common ground amplifiers. I admit I'm not all that familiar with every Carver and I'm not sure if this will be an issue with some models. This would certainly exclude any stereo amp run in bridged mode, or mono blocs.
Will there be any of the Silver 7's or Silver 9 mono's at the meet?

P.s. The later SDA models can be run on non-common ground amps with the correct AI-1 interphase cable, which rarely came with the speakers. It had to be purchased as an option."Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. Measurements can provide a measure of insight, but are no substitute for human judgment. Doro isn't against SDA's he sometimes takes issue with those of us who have unbridled enthusiasm for them. ."Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. Polk Audio Headquarters isn't a cool location? I don't see Bob Carver opening up the doors to his bidness for the slobbering masses.
As for SDA's, the 2B's are purported to be Matt's favorite. I think a set of SRS's would be good too but again, this is what is available to you I suppose. I'd volunteer mine but then I thought twice. Then again, my 2B's are signed by the man himself so it kind of shows a nerdy bias.
But I think it would be cool to have a set of Amazings being powered by Carver gear with a C-1 pre-amp and the Sonic Holography engaged to compare with say a set of SDA SRS and similar Carver gear. It'd be a neat comparison. Similar ideas, different implementations.Expert Moron Extraordinaire
You're just jealous 'cause the voices don't talk to you! -

If the common ground issue is a concern, just bring a multimeter to the carverfest and check the amps before hooking everything up. -
At least I don't have to re-edit my posts. You do this all the time!, what's going on?
It's so strange how a Polk Employee can be against SDA technology, you should be taken out back and drawn and quartered!
It's blasphemy!!!!

Hey Treitz I have a pair of 2's here in Raleigh you could borrow for the fest.
They're not the big boys (just sold my 2.3tl's) but they sound great and have a very strong sda effect, moreso than my tl's did. No mods, just the way god made em. Lemme know if they would work.
DaveOnce again we meet at last. -
Ah to clarify, they are 2b's not SRS.

Yes there will. I'll have my 9t's and Plats. There will also be another pair of 9t's, two pairs of 7t's, and 2-3 Lightstars at Carverfest. In addition to my Plats, there will be a set of ALS originals and a couple pairs of AL-III's. There will also be a pair of AL-V's which is a prototype that was never produced. It will be great to hear some SDA's, good idea Treitz. With all of the gear there it will be easy to set up an A/B between the SDA's and the Plats with sonic holography engaged.
