I'm a noob and need help with my underpowered system
OKAY. Here is the situation. I recently upgraded my speakers from a cheap all in one solution to LSi line up. I didnt get the towers for the fronts, instead I got LSi 7 bookshelfs because of kids. I also bought (because of recommendation from Best Buy Guy) a Onkyo SR805 off ebay. It says it will give 130W per channel. But I set it up and it sounds weak. I want to know if there are any "add on" solutions without having to resell the amp? I also have the LSiFX rears and LSiC center. thanks

I think the Onk 805 has pre amp outputs, so your best bet now is to add an amp. What you called an amp we call a receiver / AVR Audio Video Receiver. But beware not many AVR's (if any) could drive the LSi series speakers being that they are 4 ohms.

You can add an external amp for more power. The onkyo 805 has the right connections for this set-up. If you want to get the most out of those LSI's you'll probably need a pretty powerful external amp. So of the other guys on the form can give you some good suggestions.7.1 HOME THEATER:

Read through the "pure disappointment" thread in this same section. ;-)"Don't forget to change your politician. They are like diapers they need to be changed regularly, and for the same reason."

I saw a member reported hw used an Arcam amp with outstanding results for the LSI bookshelfs, the amp is 70watts a channel of pure clean power. Its about power, not watts per say.

Whatever you decide to get, think about getting an amp used from Audiogon. You will get more amp for your money that way.Marantz AV-7705 PrePro, Classé 5 channel 200wpc Amp, Oppo 103 BluRay, Rotel RCD-1072 CDP, Sony XBR-49X800E TV, Polk S60 Main Speakers, Polk ES30 Center Channel, Polk S15 Surround Speakers SVS SB12-NSD x2 -
The LSi7's are pretty easy to drive, compared to the other LSi speakers. Before we go whole-hog with upgrading (and I actually hurt when I say that ) could you describe more about why you think your system sounds "weak". This might help us understand better what to recommend.DKG999

jo boy I have used Oinkers for many years, they are fine receivers, but if you are running all those speakers off of it, it really cannot supply the 130 watts to each channel at once, in the education section of the website there is an article about this explaining how all watts are not created equally, you might want to give it a look.

There is an acurus 3 channel amp in the flea market now. Under $500 and would move the front stage of your home theater off the 805 and let it just handle the rear 2 channels. Would make a great addition to the LSi's (as some people find the acurus a little on the bright side and the LSi's are a laid back speaker) and should provide some really good synergy.
Your 805 should be fine running your rear speakers.
MichaelMains.............Polk LSi15 (Cherry)
Center............Polk LSiC (Crossover upgraded)
Surrounds.......Polk LSi7 (Gloss Black - wood sides removed and crossovers upgraded)
Subwoofers.....SVS 25-31 CS+ and PC+ (both 20hz tune)
Pre\Pro...........NAD T163 (Modded with LM4562 opamps)

At this point, Polk should just throw an Outlaw monoblock in with every Lsi speaker...sheesh.

Can you describe weak in better terms? Is it not loud enough? Are the sounds not clear? Etc.Political Correctness'.........defined
