Monitor 7c's DIY covers = M7c 'Stealth'

So a while ago I found some M7c's for $50 on CL, they were dirty and the fabric, vinyl and frames were also in very bad shape, but they sounded just wonderful so I started thinking about making them look better. First picture is the speakers in original condition. Second picture is of the frames after a bit of work and new fabric, did you catch the Polk Audio logo is in the wrong position? Well during clean up I checked to see if the Magnetic field would bother my TV, and since it did not I thought about using one as a center channel. The sound plays well with my RTA-12c's as my mains but the vinyl was in poor shape so I thought about making a black 'sock' I could stretch over the speaker and minimize the years of abuse.The third picture is the 'sock' on the speaker. The fourth picture is of the M7c 'Stealth' in place as a CC. I have since upgraded my Sony AVR with a Harmon Kardom AVR 230 with pre-outs for future upgrades. The next hot item is to replace the rear surrounds as I am still using the AR satellites that were part of my original HTIB set up. A fleeting thought was to find another set of M7's but at 30lbs I might look at smaller vintage Monitors maybe 4's or 5's.

Use them both as a center channel with the tweeters to the inside. I bet that would sound bette than it already does.

BL I thought about that, how do I wire them? Is it safe on my AVR to push both speakers out of the same CC out?

Please research this if you can before doing it.

But if it were me I would just wire the postive to postive and negative to negative from both speakers and run it to the center channel on the AVR. I believe in doing this you are taking two 8 ohm speakers and dropping the the load to 4 ohm's. So just make sure your AVR can handle a 4 ohm load and you should be alright.

If you go this way let us know how it turns out. Several years ago I had a receiver with two center channels outs and decided to try it. I read several articles at the time that warned of "creating a stereo image" and disrupting the dialog clarity advantages of a single center. I'm sure it may be speaker dependent but my experience was that the warnings were true. It did not sound good at all. I was using NHT's Zeros.

I like the way it sounds, so I'll keep it the way it is (just one monitor 7) for now. The AVR is a Harmon Kardon AVR 230 with pre-outs, I guess I could power one with the HK's power and another one from the center pre-out to another amp... I'll roll with the way it is for now and keep my eyes open for a pair of Monitor 5's to replace the surrounds, Vintage Polks all the way around!
