I just got my Fisher KX-200 back from repair and got it set up (FINALLY!). I had bought the thing on eBay four months ago, but it needed help before I could use it. It now has a complete set of new tubes, all the caps have been replaced, bias adjusted and everything is back up to spec.

It sounds utterly fantastic!

I have it connected to a set of RTi6's, and it seems like a perfect match. The center channel output is going to a Cerwin-Vega subwoofer xover, which sends 120hz and below to a small 8" passive Yamaha sub, just to give some more bottom end.

I am using a Yamaha DVD-S2500 as a source (never been able to get it to work well as a DVD player, so that works out well as an audio-only deck). It plays SACD's, so I'm pretty happy with that. Also hooked up to it is a Dual model 1229 TT with a new Ortofon OM-20 Super cartridge.

So far, I have only listened to Mozart & Pink Floyd with it, but I am very impressed with this setup. With the volume set a little past the halfway point, it cranks up pretty good, and the subwoofer arrangement works great, filling in that bottom end nicely.

I have attached some pics for your enjoyment.

I bet it does sound pretty good. I like the idea of using the center as a sub output. Hmm, my 299D has a center...

Nice job, going with vintage electronics. Best way to get hifi sound on a budget, IMO.

That one you stole from me? Talk about money in the bank, just hang onto it and that tuna also.

The center output is great to run sub with.

The work was done by The Sound Idea, in San Antonio. Good work, but it took a while. I guess most of it was waiting for parts.

The more I listen to this thing, the better it sounds. I haven't turned it off for 2 days, but I guess a lot of people just leave these old tube amps on all the time? It seems to sound particularly good with smooth jazz & classical.

You wouldn't think it, but that little subwoofer in there makes all the difference in the world. Actually gives it a quite powerful sound. I've turned the sub off & listened to it and it sounds good, but better to leave it on. What a treat.
