It's been a while since I've posted, but the rti price drops ($249.00 ea, free shipping at Amazon) have me thinking...

If you look at my signature, you can see I've got a pretty basic system, so I was wondering if anyone thinks that rti10's were a good place to start upgrading. I'm about 60% HT and 40% music. Also, does anyone think the price will drop even further, or will they just vanish like they did on Fry's.

Will my modest receiver (rated 90wpc) be able to drive the rti10's until I can upgrade it?

If I decide get the 10's, would rti4's work for surrounds, or should I look at the fx3's or the fx4's?

Your advice is appreciated!

If you are on a budget then the 10's would be great. There is always something better, but the best bang for the buck in your system is the 10's. The 10's will also work with you CSi3. Also consider RTi 6's or 8's since they are both cheaper and easier to drive with your equipment. The 10's will probably vanish pretty soon. BTW, the Amazon ones are only black. I would prefer cherry.

Generally speaking the 10's will need an amp to drive them properly. You may be able to get away with using your receiver for a little while, just don't turn up the volume too much. They will also sound better with an external amp.

The RTi 4's would work for surrounds. For HT, the Fx speakers are preferred.

i got them, the onkyo drives them fine, rti 4 or 6 is fine for surround but still overkill imo, depending on the room size.
the center channel really is the key, and matching the fronts to the center definitely made the biggest improvement and joy to my HT (90%). I think you wil be thrilled with the 10s for your ht and will be happy with them for your music.
    Rti10 front, csi5, Rti6 surrounds, PSW505, B&K200.7s2, Onkyo705.

I recently grabbed a pair from Amazon before they were all gone. I have them bi-amped (using the rear surround terminals) with my Onkyo 605 and I can finally say I don't expect to upgrade for a long time. Except perhaps the center -- I have a legacy Cs2 from when I had r50's in front. The r50's are now in back.

Don't know if you can bi-amp with your receiver, but it is a good time to stretch your budget a little so that you have no regrets. A lot of people here talk about them needing more power. Though I have them bi-amped, I liked them even before that. These days I never play them above 60 because it is just too loud!

    Good luck with your decision!
