I've been lurking here for a bit of time. So I'm thinking about picking up 2 pairs of these for $249.99 from a local store. I'm an avid music listener, however most of the time spent will be movies and television we have ran through our AV unit. Now in our family watching area we've been using a Marantz / Paradigm setup for some time. I'm hoping to use these as an entry into the Polk Brand in our gaming / movie room and look towards larger purchases when our home is finished.

So would these fit what I need as far as entry into the Polk Brand ?
Should I go for different rears in the form of bookshelf speakers over the towers ?
What Center Channel would you all recommend to pair up with these ?
Would you go with a different set of four, different set of fronts / rears etc ?

I'm open to all suggestions. I like what I've listened to so far from Polk and look forward to getting into the brand. Thank you guys and gals ahead of time.
I should've listened way back in 2008, they told me I'd go broke... they were right

Yeah I just called and he said he'd match their price. So I'm all set as far as that's concerned.

I used a pair of R300's and a pair of R150's for my starters. They sounded pretty decent and for the price (fry's) I could not have done much better. The only complaint, I had was the arrangement of the woofer/tweeter...sounded great seated but as soon as I would be moving about the house while listening to music, I had to really crank my receiver. They take good/clean power quite well at high volumes.

My son owns mine now...14 year old skate rat claims his XBOX360 sessions are now "epic" and he has his eyes and ears on my RTi's.

Mated with a CSR center, four R300's would be a great way to gain great sound at a great price. Add the sub and you are set.

Very nice. Quick question to any that can really help out.

What would be a good rear / center channel setup for a pair of RTi70's ? I probably should have made this a "Please help me with recommendation thread" as this is getting harder and harder as I go.

Polk advises FXi30's or 40's with the CSi30 or 40 center channel to mate with RTi70's. I'm thinking you could use RTi38's for rears, as well.

    Well here's a little update.

I took the fiance' down to Fry's to listen as best as we could to a bunch of Polk setups. She's not an impulse buyer by any stretch, but on the way back from checking out an LCD for the future in laws she was trying to get the sales person to get us the RTi10's. Problem is they were floor model, and at that point I didn't care. I had no room in my car so that wasn't going to happen. I came home to order the RTi70's and they were gone. Now I'm pretty much stuck as I don't know what else I could get at that pricepoint, that sounds as good. The Fry's near me in Concord has no more and I haven't checked San Jose or Sacramento yet. I've been looking -everywhere- online to no resolution. I need help :/

Monitor 50's and 60's are on sale as well. Any opinions on these ? Also if anyone knows where I could find a set of the RTi10's for very little above the 199.99 a speaker I shall worship you until the end of the year.

I don't think you'll find the RTi10's at close to $199 new. Best bet is Amazon, if they still have the $249 each free shipping deal going on that takes a few weeks. I would say that's still a screaming deal.

    Link

Add it to your cart under the "More Buying Choices" column to the right of the page.

Fry's pricing of $199 a few months ago was a one-time closeout deal since that RTi line was being phased out. I haven't seen any old RTi speakers in my local Fry's for months.

I got mine....awsome price, I shoved them into my car and was one happy son of a gun.

No that price is dead, however, I keep telling folks to check out tweeter.com clearence section to see if there is one near you and for how much. May be worth the drive.

Yeah they were $199.99 new, but cease to exist anymore at my closest Fry's. I did however find one with a 2 hr drive that has 7 sets. So I'm headed out there to give them another listen and pick them up if I can.
