Just got them hooked up and listening now ... paid $80, maybe a bit on the high side

They seem more soothing than the RTi10's for some reason. Less fatiguing perhaps?

One picture of speakers, and one picture of kittie listening to them.

Less fatiguing is a good discription of classic Polk speakers. Great price!

Well, I'm wondering about the tweeters (you read other thread)

They sound good, but I wonder if a $102 fork out is coming up real soon for new tweeters

Listen to them and enjoy them for what they are for now. You can always twist the treble knob to the negative side if they are a little "hot" for you. They look to be in very good shape for the one seen in the picture.

Take some windex and paper towels for cleaning the surrounds and cones on the passives. That's the best cleaner for them....no Armor All! :D

I like my RDO-194s and always suggest it, but thats just me. I think the silk brings a nice sound.

Don't worry, at only $80 for the pair, and with all the drivers working and the cabinets in good shape, no one here will think you paid too much. Just check ebay for completed auctions on Polk Monitor 10's, and you will realize you got a fair deal. Most Monitor 10's go for between what you paid to as much as nearly twice that plus shipping, so by the time all is said and done, you could have nearly $200 or so into them. Yeah, $80 is a more than fair price.

Now sit back, put on your favorite tunes, and enjoy your classic Polks!

    Later,

Personally it's well worth it. Give them a little more listening time, you may be satisfied with the sl2000. But, honestly other than a couple members, all think the RD0 is a huge improvement.

SL2000WC it's called. Never heard it, but I guess it's worth a try.

So ... not sure, but it seems like these speakers sound better at medium/medium high volume levels.

It's like at low volume, they kind of lose something. Is this my imagination, or maybe something with this particular pair, my ears, or does anyone else seem to notice this about theirs?

Question... Is it correct that the Peerless can't be dropped in in place on a SL2000, that one would require crossover mods?

They will sound better if you get them off the floor about 7", and tilt them up a bit. They are designed to go on speaker stands, if you can't find any old Polk stands just make some

I agree, they'll sound much better off the floor. Mine were VERY boomy sitting on the ground.

I was hoping they would come with stands but no luck ... I've noticed a number of old posts here with dimensions of the original stands.

And if the original stands are tilted, how did Polk keep the speakers from slowly sliding off the back?

Rubber pads or a small lip on the back should do the trick.

I paid $50 if that makes you feel any better. :)

Honestly, it varies. I've seen people try to sell them for $300 and not budge, then others practically give them away for free.

For me it was $149 plus $40 for new tweeters. I guess it could've been worse. I didn't know anything about them when I bought them. The price seemed OK at the time.

Well, the one's I got aren't perfect ... some dings in the veneer, a scratch or two here and there and one of the grills needs the cloth re-glued.

I also had to drive three hours round trip.

Sounds like you got a good deal on tweeters though, $40 a pair! RD0's?

Thats a great set of speakers you got. Congrats!

$80.00 seems like the correct price without stands.

I also noticed the "less fatiguing" sound with my 7B's compared to my
    RT800's. Huge difference.

No they're the ones that originally come with the monitor 10s which I guess are the sl2000s. A member here sold them to me.

There are some stands for sale on ebay right now for the Polk Monitor 7's. The auction ends in about a day or so. Here is the link if you are interested.

Good buy at 80.00 I must say. I paid a bit more, but I love them, as everyone here already knows!

I think the important thing is that the cat likes them. Those 2000's can't be too harsh. I would recommend a "cap" just before the right paw. It will make the meows less harsh.
