Hi guys

For those of you who have compared these models already, which of the two produces more crisp, cleaner sound- which is what I am looking for. I intend to power these with either an onkyo 705/ Harmon Kardon AVR 247 powered eventually by an external amp...

    Hi,
If no sub, go with rti10 (more bass). I just bought the 10 and I am amazed. They sound great.

    Good luck

I had that same decision, but I went with the RTI8. Mine will be used with more movies than music and as someone pointed out to me, the RTi8 has two midranges, but will definately need a sub to get top performance.

I went RTi8's for the same reason as poster above. When I heard them they were amazing. Wasn't able to do a side by side comparaison of the two though.

I already had a bic h100 sub so I took advantage of the Frys deal and got the 8's. I use the 705 as a pre and have an emotiva lpa-1 amp, and could not be happier. I use them mainly for HT, but when listening to music in 2 channel they sound great.

Go with the RTi8s unless you have a decent external amp. Even then it is still a toss if you are mostly HT and have a sub. I had all three the 12s, 10s and 8s and settled on the 8s because they didn't need as much power, I am 95% HT and have a decent sub.

There is simply no comparison between RTi8's and RTi10's when properly powered. The RTi10's have bass that can be felt and that sounds amazing. It is the type of bass that a subwoofer does not replicate - warm, tight, and punchy...not to mention that this bass is stereo. When I listen to music I turn my sub off b/c the 10's have ample bass that is much warmer and tighter than that of any sub I've tried. As for the midrange issue, in an RTi8 the 2 6.25" drivers are charged with reproducing a broad range of frequencies. Net result is that the midrange actually sounds better in the RTi10 than in the 8. Please note that I'm running my RTi10's off of a budget Onkyo external amp (M282, 100wpc) with fantastic results.

Now if budget is a concern, the RTi8 is a great speaker. But don't for a second think that RTi8 + sub is comparable to RTi10s. For home theater the RTi8 + sub combo may be better...but for music the 10s have it all over their little brothers. The 12's are even better...wish I had gotten a pair of those bad boys!
