I grabbed their album "Every Second Counts" last year for the song "Delilah" and pretty much listened only to that song off the album and never gave the rest another chance.
Well that was stupid.
I listened to the whole album the other night and while "Delilah" is one of the best tracks on the album, it's got company in that "best" category. The whole album is quite good. The recording is alright. I'm not sure if it's over-boosted or just the compression is jacked up too high. It's got balls though and is quite on the "loud" side. Not a bad thing necessarily. It's kinda new age punk stuff. They sound like a cross between Jimmy Eat World and Blink 182.
The songs are upbeat and powerful like Blink 182 but the talent is deep and diverse like Jimmy Eat World. The lead singer sounds alot like the lead singer in Jimmy Eat World. The musicianship is quite good. These guys use complex rhythms and they aren't one chord wonders either. This is apparently their 4th album and I'm going to have to go find the other 3 and give them a listen.
They have a whiny college band flair about them but it's not necessarily a bad thing. I find bands like Blink 182 unlistenable unless I'm like plastered. But a band like Jimmy Eat World I can listen to all day long. Both are classified as Punk/Alternative but from completely different side of that spectrum respectively. I'm going to go ahead and say that you should give this band a listen. It's refreshing to find bands with some talent in this kind of a genre. These guys are good and the more I listen to them, the more I like them. They are going in the CD changer in the truck on constant rotation.

No, I haven't yet. Gimmie a few days to find some of their stuff and I'll let you know.
I just saw one of the most kick-**** concerts I have ever seen in my life. A local radio station, WMMR, had their MMR*B*Q and it was an 8 hour concert. The band list was:
Noosphere
Silvertide
Three Days Grace
Breaking Benjamin
Collective Soul
Live
and I'm still kinda on that high. I see what I can find from Shiny Toy Guns though. The CD budget is really tight right now but I know a good shop around the corner from a friend's house and he's usually got all kinds of cool eclectic stuff and a TON of vinyl, especially alot of newer stuff. He caters to DJs. Any particular album I should look for?Expert Moron Extraordinaire

OK, I am listening to "We Are Pilots" right now and these guys are worth a listen. The music gets you right away so there's no "it has to grow on me" period here. It's kinda fun but kinda melancholy. Alot like the vibe one would get from The Cure but not so self-loathing.
As far as how they sound, I don't recall anyone sounding like this before so it's hard to relate another band to them. Lots of synthesizer stuff in here, gives it a kind of "other worldly" feel. There is a male vocalist and a female vocalist. They seem to alternate on most tracks with a few being harmony pieces. The arrangements are impressive and complex. But the musicianship is dead on. These guys are talented. The male singer seems to have excellent pitch too. They have a very pleasing sound to listen to.
The recording is excellent also. Seems a bit boosted but it's not to the point where it's monotone. The bass track is synthesized on a good deal of the album too so that could be where the over-boosting on the bottom end is coming from.
I've seen these guys compared to The Killers and Duran Duran and I think that's bogus. I've also seen some very critical reviews saying that these guys are a passing fad and will get played out quickly. They seem polished though so they might have some mainstream success here but it'll be hard to say. I have yet to hear these guys on the radio. Since most colleges are back in session by now, these guys should gain some popularity in the college crowd as the school year goes on. However, I think relegating these guys to that kind of status with just their first album would be a disservice.
Apparently they have been around since 2002 though but "We Are Pilots" looks like their first major release. There area couple others that were international but this seems to be the biggest effort yet. This sound they have is going to mature and I think it's going to get better. So take a listen to these guys and give them a chance. This CD flows well and I can listen to the whole thing straight through without reaching for the skip track button.
What's even better is that they have vinyl LP's for sale on their website!
They sound awesome on SDAs by the way!Expert Moron Extraordinaire
