2nd Hand LSi25's
Hi,
Im in the process of acquiring a pair of Lsi25's from an original owner. Anything that I should look out for when getting these used speakers or questions I should ask.
Im curious if anyone knows how long these speakers have been manufactured? Im awaiting his answer as far as when he purchased them but if they are a few years old this shouldnt matter huh? I imagine a good speaker like the LSi25 should last decades not years and even than replacement parts can fix any wear and tear over the years.
Would appreciate anyones advice as to what questions I should ask. Im getting a sweet deal so its hard for me to turn it down.
This quest for bigger speakers came a week or so ago when my speaker wire to my RM 7302 center speaker was loose and I wasnt getting the volume I am used to ... despite fixing this Ive been set on getting a bigger speaker ever since

Welcome Zsolt.
Speakers do last a long time. My mains are 17 yrs old & still going strong.
What do you plan on powering the speakers with? They are 4ohm & require LOTS of power to sound good. They will put a big strain on a regular receiver & possibly throw it into protect mode.
You should have a separate amplifier of at least 200wpc to drive these speakers.
If you have separates then you are probably all set. If you have a receiver, with preamp outputs then start looking for a separate amp to power those big boys.
If you don't have preouts, keep an eye on the volume & start looking at a new receiver or separates.
Good bang for the buck amps are Outlaw Audio new or used.Marantz AV-7705 PrePro, Classé 5 channel 200wpc Amp, Oppo 103 BluRay, Rotel RCD-1072 CDP, Sony XBR-49X800E TV, Polk S60 Main Speakers, Polk ES30 Center Channel, Polk S15 Surround Speakers SVS SB12-NSD x2 -
Good to hear that speakers are durable when built well. I heard from the seller and they are a wee 1 year old used exclusively for 2 Channel. Im happy that their are rich people out there who get bored of great equipment quickly and sell it for great prices Since its not shipped yet I wont get too excited until I can start tracking them !
My current receiver wouldnt be able to handle it or so is my understanding, Im powering my set up currently with a Denon 2807, which does have pre-outs according to members on here so I should be good to go with an external amp ... which I am without at this point.
Interesting you should mention Outlaw Audio as I have been seriously considering the Outlaw 7700 ... but again Ill await for the speakers' arrival before I count my chickens and get too excited. I should find out tommorow.

if you doing 2 channel I'd say look on ebay and the gon, there are always a ton of 200 watts per channel and higher amps on there for steals.2 CHANNEL

Welcome. Looks like the questions have been answered but I would want to know the following:
1) How old are they.
2) How many (hrs) do they have on them. This may be difficult.
3) Environment (pets, children, smoke).
4) Were they driven hard-volume.
5) What gear was used with them - amp/receiver.
6) Condition of the cabinets.
7) Ever serviced or repaired.
From Orion Bluebook
Manufacture Years: 2001 - Current
MSRP: $1500
Used: $780.00
Listen to them if you can.
Good luck.Michael

Thanks for the comprehensive list. Ive gotten positve answers from all the questions I asked:
1) 1 year old
2) unknown
3 & 4) Not sure but he strongly emphasized he takes excellent care of his gear and does not mistreat it in anyway.
5) I asked but didnt get an answer as he was distracted by the shipping discussion.
6) excellent condition
7) Never serviced
I am going on a bit of blind faith as I wont be able audition them given I am a whole country away. Ill post more information as I get it, nothing would make me happier than being able to post some pics of these babies dwarfing my current gear and a picture of my girlfriend FREAKING out when she finds out I am doing this purchase after I stated I couldnt pay for her airplane ticket to go see my parents.:D
