Hmmm, no integrated HD-DVD. Is MS afraid HD-DVD is losing the format war?

Naw, they probably don't see any point in adding the cost into the base unit when it can't really be used for gaming.
I'll get one and a PS3 the same evening... *hurry up and get the basement done, hurry up and get the basement done*
Hold on, gotta wait for the cooler processor's...There is no genuine justice in any scheme of feeding and coddling the loafer whose only ponderable energies are devoted wholly to reproduction. Nine-tenths of the rights he bellows for are really privileges and he does nothing to deserve them. We not only acquired a vast population of morons, we have inculcated all morons, old or young, with the doctrine that the decent and industrious people of the country are bound to support them for all time.-Menkin -
Just a note of caution. It seems that many things are tied to the hard drive including downloadable content and account information. So the process of moving data back and forth between drives is somewhat complicated as it will erase data as it copies it over. And since some information is also tied to hardware, I've read that they don't have a process in place for copying over data from premium systems to the elite yet. So no transfer cable is included for those wanting to move all their premium stuff over to the Elite. Although I guess there may be work arounds with memory cards?

Here's a link on what a transfer involves. And I'm not sure how many people it applies to, but if you have a second hard drive for your 360, you can only get the data off of one.

Just be sure you know what you're doing before you start the process, as I don't think there's any way to undo something if things go wrong. -
One other thing to note, the decision not to include an HD drive gives the consumer the decision to choose whether he/she wants to support the format or wait until the technology is established and perfected.

With the 360 you get what you pay for whether you want to spend $299 or the equivlanet of a PS3. Unfortunately, for the PS3 the 360 has all the games.

I don't see anything about this one that would offer better sound. You can run an optical out on the plain 360.
You must have misinterpreted what I was saying... I can hold off on spending money on my surround speakers to get this. -
The Elite would be nice to have....I just bought a 360 in january..
oh well..component is fine with me..
My receiver only has 2 HDMI in's anyways...and they're both taken..Pioneer Elite VSX-53, Polk RT800i fronts, Polk CS400i center, FX500i surround, Velodyne sub -

You're quite right about the sound still being limited on the Elite as far as HD-DVD playback goes. This article is pretty clear that the Elite isn't capable of decoding or passing through lossless audio. It recommends going stand-alone if audio is important. Although the Spring update is supposed to address the lip-synch issue.
