No affiliation, and I really wish I were in the area to pick them up:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=012&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=220095654643&rd=1&rd=1

I have a pair of these, and they are magnificent. If you can get 4 of them for less than $800, it's a steal, and these are at 120, with 6 hours left, as of posting here.

You may want to see if steveinaz is interested....
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

Yes, the screen name is a hint... ;)
IIRC he was looking for these a while ago...
There is no genuine justice in any scheme of feeding and coddling the loafer whose only ponderable energies are devoted wholly to reproduction. Nine-tenths of the rights he bellows for are really privileges and he does nothing to deserve them. We not only acquired a vast population of morons, we have inculcated all morons, old or young, with the doctrine that the decent and industrious people of the country are bound to support them for all time.-Menkin

steve- just wondering what you thought of the bass in yours. I have been running the c-4's I picked up a few weeks ago in my basement in a totally non-audio proper setup. The are hooked up to vintage Dynaco 410 (200wts) and equally vintage, odd, rare, never heard of or seen before, AGI 511 preamp. I was taken back by the bass response, almost to the negative. Sounds a little heavy but it could very well be the environs. I had never heard Energy speakers before and didn't know what to expect. I am NOT saying I don't like them, I do. Just was surprised at the lower end almost dominating the sound.

If anyone knows about the AGI I would be very curious. It is built like a tank, very no nonsense; input selection buttons, volume and balance only. Coolest thing was it was built in Willow Grove PA, about 10 miles from where I grew up!

Though, I'm not Steve, I'll say that the bass in my C-8's is very tight and balanced. I'd guess that you have a room resonance problem, as you've basically got the speakers I have, minus a woofer each.

My C-9's can be a bit thick on mid-bass if not spiked and away from the back walls a bit.

I have mine about 36" from the rear walls, 8ft apart, toed-in about a 1/2". They also sit on cermaic tiles to tighten bass further. With this setup, they sound great. I'm also "saved" by having a very large listening room.

The positive flip-side to the heavier mid-bass is that recordings have more body, sound less 2-dimensional, especially poor quality recordings. For me it's far more of a positive characteristic, then a negative.

But yes, Energy's/Veritas are known for being a little heavy-handed in the bass.

As shipping something this large would be a large portion of the overall expense of attainment, wouldn't it be prudent to give your locality?

Also, one of our rules here is that things for sale must have prices attached, visibly.

Otherwise, your abrupt appearance in a very old thread offering something for sale without listing a price gives an impression of impertinence.

Just because we are on the internet does not mean all rules of polite society are tossed into the bin.

apologies fo the lack of courtesy here. I wasn't even sure if anyone would read/respond....

I'm in seattle and was hoping to get $500 for the pair.

I honestly don't know what they are worth. I paid ~2k for the pair back in 2002. They are great speakers and I hate to see them go but the wife hates how big they are in the living room so I've replace them with smaller units.
