Wife is out of the house and sampling music at moderate volume...decide, ok, let's check out Pink Floyd's "Pulse" again. Volume starts at ~ -16...sounds good...let's crank it...-4, 0, +4... crash..bang. My new Mordaunt-Short surronds were on my mantle, about 3-4' behind my LP...not any more. My right surround, pictures of my wife's ancestors, etc. took a 4' walk onto my fireplace. I feel like I took a **** on my couch. When I turned it down to -24 it was still loud...it's just that extremely loud sounded better. OK, let's clean the disaster up...Now, I've got a dinged speaker, sounds great, but I'll never get it's value(nicks & whatever).

I guess those rear ports really do mean something

I fell like such an A**hole...

I would't say that you were an F'ing idiot... or even a A**hole.

    Just a Dumb A$$ :D

Kidding,of course...with DVD's like Pink Floyd around,it's very hard not to get a little carried away once in a while.

You might try some of the "blue tacky stuff" sorry,I can't think of the name right now...adhesive that helps hold speakers in place on stands and where ever.

Don't be to tough on yourself, it's water under the bridge, you've learned a valuble lesson, time to move on.

Now if you do it again then there might be an issue. Of course we're referring to the definition of crazy (doing the same exact thing over and over and expecting to get a different result 'next time').

Let it go, and have a great weekend!

Ya know, Dane is right ...

I think about how lucky I am to have a house where the volume levels is entirely up to me......not the neighbors

as far as investment purposes..........eh ?!

Collateral damage to non-audio related objects is unavoidable. You can take all the precatuion you like but something is going to take a hit eventually, this is acceptable in your case.

Your speaker is now "customized" a tested, battle scarred veteran deserving of a medal, hold her close to your heart, she is there for you and only you.

Now get back in there pump up the volume and Rock On.

Ya know that spongy like matt material that has like a mesh/bead construction? It is used in kitchen draws, and on shleves. That can help with things getting mobile. You should be happy that you have "The Power to Move Things Via Music" :D
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks

I think it is important to see what your rig sounds like at high volumes. I do that every now and then. You had got new speakers and the house was all yours- so the timing was perfect to take if for a test run. Don't sweat it Ron.

I think the cut was "Sorrow", the one w/ Gilmour doing a heavy distorted guitar coupled with extreme LFE deep into the 20s, a transient must have been mixed into the back right, cuz it launched itself and the left didn't move :D. I was playing the high bitrate DD version. On 2 channel I still have another 6 db headroom at +4 per the meters on the TFM 35, so I wasn't concerned with clipping. It was seriously loud though. I rarely play anything louder than the high - teens, mostly in the low -30s. Just had a wild hair last night, recapturing my youth when I saw PF at the Oakland Coliseum in the 70s. Pretty much the same show as a matter of fact, a few newer songs, no RW, but DSOTM was exactly as I remembered.

I like these M-S 902s, but I'm just glad I haven't found the right set of M5s or 7s yet. I'd hate to prong a vintage piece.

My ears are fine...it was loud, but not as loud as most content above reference level. This concert has some sort of dialnorm solution I think...

One of the 3 or 4 best concerts I've ever seen...up there with Genesis "The Lamb", ELP "Welcome Back" ... and yes I was totally bent too.

The 2nd Pulse disk is DSOTM in it's entirety, so if you've never seen it...check it out. The whole concert is pretty spectacular you might want to wear shades...:D

My stupid self tipped over the dvd rack last week while listening to John Legend, of all things. 180 dvds on the floor, a puzzled look from the roommate, and the relocation of the rack later, all is well. Hindsight being 20/20, putting the dvd rack so close to the sub WAS a dumb **** idea.....

Agreed. I don't even have the bragging rights to say that my damage was done because I was-a-rockin'. I moved my entertainment center out to do something as my very first post on this forum states, and little did I know....as I was pulling the entertainment system out, the speaker cord was underneath the PSW1000 sub (which is quite heavy)......next thing you know *crash* yup, down comes the speaker.

We all have things that "happen"......but i will tell you this. It won't happen again! Lesson learned! Don't feel bad, man. It happens to the best of us.;)

Well now that we're all fessin up to stupid deeds, here's one. My neighbor is a contractor and since we've moved in he's been doing door hanging, storm door installations etc. Well he hung the door between my media room and the kitchen but never finished the molding. I purchased the molding and he went to work. I was busy doing something duh duh duh!!! and he asked me if there would be any problem doing some electric sawing of the molding. . . not paying attention duh duh duh I said go ahead.

    He left . . . .'

I walk into the media room and my rig is under a good 1/8 of saw dust and wood chunks. Even though my dust cover on the TT was down there was saw dust in and on there too. I had to shut everything down especially the amps cause of the air vents and do a complete dusting & vacuuming, inside and out. I was shitting a brick cause I keep all the electronics powered up and was afraid some saw dust would have caused a short in one the three amps.

    We shall see.

Yep so far. I just cleaned everything off and took some compressed air and blew out the power amps.

As much as my wife love listening to the rig she's afraid to touch anything except for the digital player's remote and the volume control. I've been trying to get her to learn how to clean, demag, destatic, a record, oh yeah I forgot, clean the stylus, place the clamp on properly, flip the switch on the preamp and then sit down and listen but she's having none of that, LOL!!!

    Hello,
I just wanted to point out that Roger Waters was in Pink Floyd until after the release of "The Final Cut" in 1983, so if you saw them in the 70's, I'm pretty sure that waters was with them. I saw them do "The Wall" show in the Nassau coliseum in New York in 1980 and Waters was there. I have also seen Waters on his own four or five times including his most recent DSOTM show.

Ok got I got a good one my neighbor comes over to demo mission impossible 111 and sure enough we wanted to watch the bridge scene,
So I decided to crank it up and my 245i fried my monoblock amp which was rated at 160 wpc , so I took the amp for repair and the guy tells me that it wil cost more to fix than just replacing it.
So I ended up replacing it with a 200 watt amp but I won't fry that one for sure....
