New Yamaha with RTI 4's
Hey all;
Just added a new Yamaha receiver with the AVR only equipment listed below. I am finding that the Yammy is VERY bright. Too much in the high freq. department for my liking.
I am using the NEW rti 4's up front with seasoned 4's out back. Had to do it this way...Returnability issues, they are "hanging" out back, obviously requiring screws to do so. Didn't want to puncture the new ones.
Is the Yammy known as being a "Bright" receiver or is it something in the settings I've yet to get to? I am a bit old school as you can see by my sig with the 2b's and the Carver which is audio ONLY! Not part of the 5.1 system.
The Yammy link is below and it would seem to be a Canadian only?!?!

I do notice that the brightness is much more noticable during music playback as compared to movies, but it is noticable on both. I didn't have the brightness, nor the overall quality of the rest of the sound (In every aspect) compared with the entry level JVC I was using.
Simple treble adjustment which IS untouched at this point??
All info is very welcome.
Thanks,

Yammies are known too be bright. I have 3 AVR's by them - 2 with full Polk systems. I happen too like it. You want bright- slap some klipsch (sp?) on them. Ouch!. I do know that my AVR2400 is not as bright at my 795a though and my newer one- forgot the model # is warmer then the other 2 IMO. Have you gone in and run the optimizer- and if so..you can tweek the "high" down manually- good luck

I had and rxv540 with some rti4 and yes I found it bright as well, which is why I went to a HK to power my rti8s. So now the yammie is in the bedroom hooked up to some r10s.
I think you can either changed the AVR or change the speakers. Sorry nothing else seems to have worked for me. -
UPDATE
Hey all again.
Thought I would post an update.
I was completly disappointed with the Yammy I picked up and that receiver has now gone back.
So I had to try a different flavor of AVR so why not a Denon?
So, I just brought home a Denon AVR-1507....Yeehaw!! Much, much better match with the RTI 4's. Day and night from the bright sound of the Yammy.
Nothing against the Yamaha's, but it is sure as hell not a good match with the 4's.
No more bleeding ears here!!:D
It has a much warmer sound both with video and audio sources. Still not great mind you but a helluva lot softer and controlled!!
I still have a ways to go in setting it all up but it is a ton closer to where I want to be!!
So maybe there is hope for those others out there with the 4's and their brightness. Try something other than a Yamaha with them.
I believe you will be happy!! I sure am!

From my experience the 4's are bright out of the box regardless of electronics, but after some extended break-in become much more tolerable.
Hope you enjoy your Denon!HT

I used to have the same line reciever the HTR-5850b and I found the yamaha bight as well I have a rxv-1300 yammy now and find the same thing. I've ordered the emotiva pre/pro they have on speacial and I've heard its more laid back. (I hope) hate ordering something I havent heard yet. But the price was wild with free delivery. I've been told denon sounds great with the speakers you have2 CHANNEL
