ok i will be using a onkyo TX-SR804 as my reciever for my home entertainment system. it will be the pre amp for my monitor 70's from polk audio,
what i need to know is what would be a good power amp for these monitor 70's series speakers the onkyo is a 7.1 channel reciever makes 105 watts per channel
sounds good but with more power i think it would sound better,

whats a good power amp? and what wattage rms should i look for.

    Rotel RB-980BX

    http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?ampstran&1172901562

Several others on the 'Gon, so now might be the time to barter and plead.

The two make a great pair (or threesome, I suppose). Plenty of slam and more than enough power for the 70's.

I believe 135 into 8 ohms and 220 into 4 ohms. More than enough for the 70's.

You are correct about more power making them sound better. The 70s are large speakers and relatively inefficient at that. I would like to suggest that you take a look at the Outlaw amps. I have purchased 5 of their 200 wpc monoblocks and they do whatever I ask of them. While I may one day upgrade to higher end amps, with this range of equipment that I have at present, I will have no need to replace them at all.

If you insist on 200 wpc on the cheap, then I might recommend an Adcom 555 for $300-350 used.

None of the companies you mentioned make a two-channel amp that I can think of... not recently. With the exception of Onkyo, but I believe that model (282?) was discontinued. And that was only around 100 wpc.
Search "adcom" or "rotel" or "acurus" and see what you dredge up. Once you're familiar with the names, we can get back on track.

Other than that, you'll be chasing your tail in trying to score a 200 wpc JVC two-channel amp. I believe that unicorn flew away once he heard saskewatch was hot on his trail.

    Zombie boy is right.
Do some homework. You're gonna find that you are going to have to branch out with other company's other than mainstream in order to get a decent amp. Get used to it because this is just the start. The deeper you get into this hobby you will be exposed to companies that you have never heard of that make Killer equipment!

IMHO is not an amp- it means "In My Honest Opinion."

If you can listen to some of those that would be a good place to start, also read some expert reviews and people's reviews/opinions on this forum. Use the "Search" feature on this forum to do a search of what others have experienced using these amps.
