I am afraid I don't have the resources in my area to be able to compare much, I can say that stack up very well with speakers in the same price range. Not many Polk shops around here...

I had the Monitor 70's for 2 years and I can say for their price range they kick ****. They have a full presence and fill-up the room nicely. They are great for music. I upgraded to Rti10's because I found the 70's to lack some detail and clarity. I also found the bass to be a bit muddy and bloated. At first the Rti10, seemed too bright for me, but after I got over the initial shock, I'm finding that I enjoy them much more. The Rti line is a significant jump from the monitor line. Music is very clear, crisp and detailed. The bass is less distorted and goes lower. The monitor series is a good entry level speaker- if you can afford it, go with the Rti's.

If you can find a good price on them, I think they're definitely worth a look, but I guess overall it depends how much of a budget you have to play with. Overall, I think they have a great balanced sound and they do fill out a room nicely, as Ern said. I use them for music and movies and I think they work for both quite nicely.

If I were to start over now, I would probably look more into the RTi10s or RTi12s after having listened to them a lot recently, while looking for a new center. They have a much brighter sound which contrasts a lot against the warmer sound of the monitors, but I think they does a better job on the overall soundscape. But if you can find a showroom, you should just see what sounds best to you.

But as far as the Monitor 70s go, I still use them, I still love them, and I don't regret owning them one bit.
