Ok, here's my problem. In 11 days we move into our brand new house.I wasn't able to catch the house in framing, so I couldn't run speaker wire for suurounds. The wife already said no wires all over in new house!!I listen music/HT about 50/50. How would a soundbar do with a pair of lsi 15's on a b input for music?

You can't find ways to hide wires?

ex. under base boards, chair rails, make a trim that contains the wires, speaker stands that have the wire incoporated, could pull carpet back along the perimeter, cut a half inch of underlay away and tack some lamp cord to the floor, then push the carpet back down on the smoothedge, etc. (so many ways of hiding wire)

Just a general statement...not refering to you specifically but I have to say I don't know how some guys live their lives that they let their wives have so much control over things. I am not for bullying or being in total control, but come on there has to be some compromises in a relationship.....are these wives or are some of you guys still kids living with your mother? I could never live like that.

Sorry if this hijacks but this may start something fun!

    Good luck,

The Surroundbar works great for movies, add a Polk sub and you've got a GREAT video setup. I also like the fact of having the 15's there for music - you're about to have the best of both worlds, and super-clean install.

    GO FOR IT.

    Cheers,

I agree with RuSsMaN on the SurroundBar. It will give you the surround sound effect without all the wires/cables. just add a nice subwoofer and a good high powered receiver and you are set my friend.

    I kinda like the idea!

I'd get a different sub than the Polk though.

someone on another forum said that the yamaha ysp was a better setup than the polk soundbar?Has anyone heard the yamaha? It has it's own amplifier and processing,so you only connect a digital souce. That kinda scares me in case one of the 45 amps break! The yamaha bounces sound off of the side walls to create surround, and comes with a mic for tuning.I am a polk fan though, what do you guys think?

How does he know this, has he tried the soundbar in his house?

Personally, I'd get Polk anyday over any Yamaha speakers. However, I know absolutely nothing about Yamaha speakers period besides they are not know for making good speakers like Polk. I'd also not buy any speakers like that with it's own amp and processing in one package. I'd definetly rather use a good quality AVR over something built into a speaker, I can almost assure you would get better sound quality.

No need for the surround bar.

It is possible to run wires in an existing house. I've done it in every house I have lived in, even before multi-channel. I don't even like the front speaker wires showing, it's tacky.

    Personal preference.

Some people like Ferraris, some like Vettes, some like 4x4s.....

Polk subwoofers are very musical, very accurate, and play plenty deep for 99% of any HT setup. At most, you may miss a couple of seconds of information out of a handful of films. Money better spent on electronics if you ask me.

Polk subs start to cave in (roll-off) below 30hz. Like Russman stated they are excellent performers for music, but lack the lower octaves for HT use.

    Russ,

I'm not trying to argue with you on this. For the average person the Polk is sufficient, and will make most people happy. I guess I'm not the average person, I love bass!:) What do you mean you miss a couple seconds of information out of a handful of films?

I've personally had the 505, and it was good more music. However, it was a POS for HT use in my book. The sub could not NOT handle anything well down below 30hz. There a lot of movie passages out there that can dig down in the low teens that the Polk is not going to offer in that price range. I can name off a couple internet companies that have subs that will blow anything Polk has to offer for and then some, especially for the money.

If you want a good review of the 505, go here...

I'm not trying to argue or convince you otherwise broham, it's 'all good'.

I just get tired of the constant rhetoric that Polk subs are not good HT subs. I've had several, and they hold their own in lot of HT setups. I used a PSW550 (8 inch) in my video rig for a LONG time, and it made for a great movie experience.

There really isn't a LOT of movies that dig down much lower than 30Hz - you miss the tail end of the ring drop, or the glass tap doesn't shake your pictures off the wall....a very very small part of the movie experience as a whole.

I like a solid foundation also, I run a 15" Signet in the main family room for music, and a 12" Signet in the video rig currently.

    Cheers,
    Russ

hey I saw that if I get a soundbar now I get a $200.00 credit for a polk sub.I planned on an svs cylinder($875.00),but with $200.0 credit I guess I could get another polk sub.Right now I have an older 180 watt down firing 10 inch polk.(not sure of the model but does a decent job)for the money would the psw404 or 505 be better.they would be either $200. or $300.0 with the credit?
