Yes, I am the proud Papa of a nice little system that is coming together with the GREAT help of everyone here!

So far I have the Rti6's for surrounds, the Csi5 for center and am looking around for some Rti8's for my fronts.

I was in a dilemma between the 12's and 8's. My thinking is, since my room is 13x13 with 11 foot kitchen behind a bar, that if I get the Rti12's I've overpowered myself.

Don't get me wrong, I loved the 12's. They sounded as good as freakin Imax but on music, I preferred the 8's. Huh, I actually didn't want to believe it when I heard it. So anyways, if I ever get upgrade fever I could always throw my 8's as surrounds, the 6s as rears and get some 12s in the future for mains.

Now for some sub recommendations to sweeten the 8's for music even more.
Oh yea, and a power conditioner.

SVS sub, they are all good - pick one. Monster 3500 MKII Power conditioners are on sale for around 150-200 bucks online, 12 outlet, etc etc. depending on what you have driving the 8s look into a power amp in the future, my 12s are singing like a fat lady screaming for a hamburger since I biamped them with Outlaw Monoblocks. Good luck guy, and most importantly ENJOY.

    Samiam,

You really need to determine if the RTi8's are what you want or are you just settling for them instead of the RTi12's. I am not saying that one of those speakers is better than the other. What I am saying is that if you already have an idea that you will be upgrading in the future before you even purchase the speaker, then you will always be wondering "what if" you had purchased the other. This feeling of "what if" will always keep you from fully enjoying your system until you satisfy that itch. Cfrizz wrote a pretty good synopsis of how men tend to upgrade in small steps. Entertaining read:
    http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?t=44873&page=2

Anyway... I purchased the RTi12 not only because I am a HT freak and wanted the big kick but also because I like to listen to 2 channel without needing the sub. Those monsters will thump your chest without the aid of any additional sub.

All I am recommending is to save up (or buy used) and get what you want now rather than always wondering what your system could of sounded like. If the RTi8's are what you think have the best sound and will make your system the way you want it, then by all means buy them. Otherwise take a breath and save just a bit more for what you really want.

Good luck with your system. Sounds like you are off to a great start!

The best bang for your buck to me is the PB12 + Plus 2, or you can even get away with the PB12-NSD/2. Both will beat your back out. It all depends on what you want, room size, etc. I will with the Plus 2 and I cant utilize the full potential of the sub, it really hits that hard. Do a few searches on the web of the SVS models and pull the trigger.

As for the monster, I really like mine, switched outlets etc, great filtering and the rest of the works. I guess it depends on what you want to spend, what features you want, etc.

in your size room.. the smaller SVS subs would be perfect for it. of course if you are a bass head.. go larger.. any SVS or HSU sub will make you very happy.

*if you go with a round SVS.. keep in mind they are much larger than they appear on the web site.. nearly everyone I know who has gotten one.. first thing they say.. Damn, i had no idea this thing was that big!!!!!! :)
and for the box subs.. everyone always says.. Damn, i had no idea this this was that heavy. :)
then finally, they say damn, i had no idea what i was missing without a good subwoofer. :p;)

I like the round ones...I know I know, that's no way to base your purchase, but from what I have heard the svs subs are very dynamic. Yes you are right danger boy, I need to manage my bass. So I'll probably go with the smaller model. I am now looking into some outlaw amps. dang, does this ever end?:o :(:p

SVS Cylinder Subs have a smaller footprint than the boxes, are easier to move into position, and when properly calibrated...will knock your feffin' socks off:D

With your room size,a Cylinder would be perfect...and no,this never ends

I second the SVS cylinder sub suggestion. I have the 25-31plus & it kicks butt in my 13x32ft room. I often wondered if there was any performance difference between the square & the cylinder design. So off goes an e-mail to SVS. There answer was that performance is identical. The only difference is the cosmetic issue. For my application the cylinder was a better fit. And also the cylinder being a lot lighter due to their design is also a big plus when it comes time to move it around.

Thanks, yea the SVS is 99.9% the one I'm going to buy. I have heard too many good reviews about their musicality. The HSU is a close runner up. I will probably get the baby cylinder, but if the bigger svs are more musical, then I would consider the upgrade. :)

I have a similiar setup to you samiam. I picked a 20-39 PCi from the recommendations of the folks at SVS. I'm very happy with the sub. Check out the Panamax 5300 surge protector/line conditioner. Olkiepolkie on this site is an authorized dealer for Panamax, etc. and gave me a good deal on all the equipment I purchased from him which was nearly everything.

Get an amp for your RTi8's-they'll love it!! I went from a H/K 635 to bi-amping the 8's with 200 watts/channel and they sound awesome. Much punchier, toned down the highs, and sound better overall.

If your interested in running a high current amplifier with your rig I would steer clear from conditioners that limit power, they will throw a veil over your rig muscially speaking.

Speaking of which, how are you liking your UPC-200?
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

well ZB since you asked................I added the upc-200 and the Statement power cord at the same time, I would say the woodshed rig sounded a bit more solid with the background blacker although on software with tape hiss I can still hear that, not a big change, a small subtle change only someone very familiar with their rig would notice and then mostly on excellent recordings, I have the sources, phono pre and pre-amp, plugged into the upc running it dual, the amps are still straight from the wall, I will buy another one for that, so I suppose since I want another one and that I now have some protection that says it all.

Active vs Passive conditioners, well each have advantages, which one works best for any rig is best decided by the owner as they determine the use and needs of the system.

One that I had not heard of but was highly recommended by some folks I respect very much was the Running Springs, I checked their website and it is full of stuff any audioholic will enjoy.

Oh no, you had to say it...lol....I was thinking about getting some outlaw 2200's to power up my receiver (marantz, denon or hk last years models) The receivers deliver around 65-85 watts, so I'm curious about the detail by throwing some 200 watt amps on them. Amazingly they are only $200 a piece. Just stack and rack is the motto. Hmm, not too much luck on the search about those puppies.

Also, does the Monster 3500 MKII Power Conditioner limit power? I yi yi! So much to learn...brain...exploding..... :)

Sam, yes that monster has a current limit, at reference levels I have run my 5100 to shutdown during HT scenes. Its not that they are "bad" power centers, there are lots of choices, we are talking small differences in sound with standard systems. Just make an informed decision.
