No, most manufacturers require 6-8" on top.

i think that you can afford to put a dvd player on top of your receiver, it all depends on how long you listen to music for and how loud. if your receiver gets very hot then i wouldnt recommend it but if you are like most then it will be fine. i have my dvd player on top of my denon 2106 and is been fine so far. just remember that air is not coming in from the top, its only leaving so i think having the sides open is more important. either way use your best judgement, try it out and if you notice pretty hot air coming out then its probably baking inside of the receiver.

If you're upgrading, I'm assuming that you also flip your gear to assist. With that in mind, stacking gear is probably not the best way to preserve your gear's condition.
just my 2 centerinos:)I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore -
Some idiot put a Denon Dvd player on top of a receiver at Circuit City.Everything I own burned in the fire!!!!!!!!!!

Hey, here's a quick picture of my setup, minus the surrounds. I'm a new medical student living off loans, so I'm not exactly living in a mansion, but it meets my needs and I like it. My fellow students love my house for movie nights, when I have time to host them. As for my setup, you can see a pair of RTi-38s and a CSi-30. The sub is a SVS PB10-isd, which I love. The surrounds are the FXi-30s, but aren't visible from this photo.Main: Polk Rti-38
Center: Polk Csi-40
Rear: Polk Fxi-30
Sub: SVS PB10-isd
Receiver: Marantz SR-5007

Here is apic of my old RTi setup. Sold those, ended up going with a Klipsch Reference setup, and as of my purchases today, I am back in the polk ballgame!!
Bought a set of black RTi70's a CSi30 (still looking for a CSi40), two RTi38's and a set of FXi30's.
I am very stoked about this setup! I loved my RTi's, and I like the look and build quality of the RTi70's over the RTi8's.
This set up is going in my dedicated home theater. I may eventually put the CSi30 and RTi38's in my family room, when I get the CSi40. Would prefer to have a set of RTi28's on the back wall, for size aesthetics mostly!

Heres some pics of my RTi setup. They are RT35i, CS245i, RT25i for the rears. Also the big thing in the corner is my DIY subwoofer. Its an RL-P15 in an 8.5cf enclosure tuned to 17hz. Its powered by a Behringer EP 1500 and has since been painted in a high gloss black. Its topped off with the grill from my old Polkaudio PSW450 which is mounted over the 6" port hole on the top. The Polkaudio grill is tribute to my damaged PSW450 that died before its time and from no fault of its own. RIP PSW450
