FX500 vs. FX3's for rears w/SDA-SRS's?

I have a line on a pair of FX500's, six years old. Seller wants $210.00 delivered. A much newer FX3, with a smaller driver, can be purchased for no more than $200.00 on Ebay.

The 500's have a larger driver but are older. Just curious what those who have heard think about price of the 500's and which is a better fit for the SDA's. I would prefer LSI surrounds, but I dont' want to drop that much as two channel is my main focus. From reading past threads, I think the 1000's are too damn big. My front to back listening area is I think 14 feet and the couch is directly against the back wall. The 1000's will be too obtrusive (not that the SRS's hide.....) White is the only option for me so that rules out other models.

I do have a pair of NHT Super Zero's which are giant killers, but they are direct radiating. I always was pleased with them, but thought for sure bipoles on my back wall would give me a more encompassing sound. Placement will be up high, in the corners to keep them out of view as much as possible. Bottom line: will the 500's with a single driver suffice in a small area and match alright with the SDA's?

Since no one gives a crap and had no advice, I will continue to share more info that no one cares about. Sent money out today for the 500's. $200.00 delivered sounded like a reasonable price via the Gon. Opted for bigger and older vs. newer and smaller....

    I didn't see the thread! :)
I bought a pair of 500i 's here (CP) about two months ago.
Almost the exact same price, too. Good choice there, IMO; I love 'em!
I too have them mounted on a back wall, and set to bi-pole. They sounded better that way, to me. I auditioned a pair of FXi3s as well, and while they sounded OK, I like the sound provided by the larger drivers on the 500s.
I actually don't even need the Advent sub I had hooked with my original R15s
to augment the bass a little. Good luck with yours.
So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

    Univera.....

maybe you need a flashier thread title....

    like "Eat at Joe's"

or "First 10 repondents receive lifetime subscription to Cat Fancy":D

or better yet.. maybe no one knows the answer to your questions..

I post threads that hardly get any replies, i must be on some massive ignore list, my subject matter might not apply to others, or they might not know the answers to to what i'm asking, or.. as in the case of my recent post about bi-amping rti4's, maybe no one cares.

Who cares? It's an audio forum for crying out loud- this isn't the center of the social universe. Just because you might not get the number of replies you were hoping for shouldn't batter your ego.. Really.. it's an audio forum. no more, no less.

Has anyone besides me noticed that on the forums tempers have been on a short fuse as of late? Go outside and get some sun.

oh the answer to your question.. I would get the fx500i's. Bigger driver, more bass, older model.. which would probably benefit with older model tweeters and timbre matching.

I think as long as you stay within the same model of Polk Audio speakers... you should be fine. mixing an RTi with an LSi would sound off.. but mixing an older FX/500i with say.. a FXi5 would be ok.

I have RT800i's and FX/300i's same year and model series.. but the tweeters are different. but they all still sound excellent.

Plus no one give a rats ****. ;)

There are no set in stone rules when it comes to home theater. I wouldn't mix say.. Sony fronts, JBL center and then Polk surrounds. that would be a crime.

In reference to the above comments, I was only kidding. No anger here. My ego is just fine. Just keeping it light. Hope you get off the blackball list...
