October's upgrade

I'm having a really bad time with this upgrade bug.

Moving into a new house with an AV room more than double the size of the existing one.

Bought a SVS PB12 + . CAN'T wait to get it installed!

3 Outlaw 2200 monoblocks also on the way to take care of the fronts and center. The surrounds will be powered by the Adcom and the rear surrounds by the AVR (Yamaha 5990)

The monoblocks pave the way for a speaker upgrade. I doubt they'll be Polks but with the factory just a couple of miles from my office they might be.

You just gotta know what I want to get setup first in the new house, don't ya?

You already have a great setup. Once you power those RTi10's with the Outlaws, you may change your mind about upgrading the fronts. If you do, just realize that upgrading HT speakers is a slippery slope. Once you start, you'll probably end up changing all of them.

Thanks for the reply. I think I should stop reading all online and print AV materials for a few months. If it weren't for them I'd probably still be happy with my initial setup. Once the new mortgage kicks in, I probably won't have a choice but to be happy.

I should have bought all five, not just the three. Connected them today and noticed an immediate improvement in the sound coming from the fronts RTi10s and center -CSi5. Used the Adcom 555 for the surrounds RTi8s - they came to life as well, no longer being powered by the AVR, but they sounded very "tinny" and harsh compared to the fronts, while the fronts no longer sounded that way. Its the Adcom making them sound like that. The Adcom is an improvement over the AVR, but not anything like the sound from the monoblocks. Imaging, lows, punch, and clarity are very much improved.

I listened to a whole bunch of multichannel music this evening - DSTOM, Foreigner 4, Elton John, Steely Dan, all of the stuff I have that really shines, plus of course the soundtracks from "Fast and Furious 2" and "Nemo". There is a great difference in sound from just yesterday, but those 2 surrounds running on the Adcom, that has to change. There was so much raw "power" in the room during the opening minutes of DSOTM "Time" that my jaw was dropping. Amazing lows coming from the RTis that were just not there before.

I'm calling them tomorrow to see if I buy one more will they still do the buy 4 get 1 free deal.

Disregard my last, I just noticed you have a set of rti8s in your setup for rears along with the deftechs. Awesome setup you got there, enjoy. Gotta love the size of the monoblocks, I like how heavy they are, very good build quality.

Thanks, yeah, its getting there, thanks. Can't wait to get that big SVS installed. In the new house (settle tomorrow!) there's tons more room behind me, and I'm considering using my trusty monitor 5Bs as rear surrounds. It'll be fun to experiment at any rate.
