What about the "space" between the tweeter... should I remove the encasing? I'm not really able to use a rag on this area...I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

My first inclination is to remove the driver... I've used an allen wrench to remove the screws, but the tweeter doesn't necessarily pop out. What would you use to "pry" it from the cabinet?I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. I've put off removing the drivers, and have been "cleaning" the tweeter with an exacta to get in smallest nooks (careful, careful, careful) and cloth dipped in warm water used to dab residual sand. This is driving me crazy.... What should I listen for when I get these puppies home? I really want them to pull through, as I don't want to get involved in any BS over at the 'Gon. Pictures were taken though....I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. It's not a big deal. Once they're cleaned up and you start listening to them, you'll forget about it.
Try using a hair dryer to blow the sand particles off.HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub
"God grooves with tubes." -
plug them in and crank it up, that'll knock any stupid sand off

Yeah, I know... I have a feeling everything's going to be A-Ok. I just know how delicate this tweeter business is. Wouldn't even a single grain cause a noticable difference?I never had it like this where I grew up. Alright... after much grooming, picking, cleaning and dabbing, I think I got everything ship-shape. I cannot stress to you guys what this looked like initially -- think the proverbial "sand in the bikini". It was not only caked on, but had found its way into places where the sun don't necessarily shine.
As an aside, I sent the seller an email regarding the issue -- calm, polite, but concerned. I also mentioned that only four of the carpet spikes were included (but that's a story for another day). His response was basically that he boxed them up nearly 6 months ago and brought them to the original dealer to sell. He realized upon returning home that he had forgotten four of the spikes, so he brought them to the dealer the next day.
He assured me he'll check with the dealer today to see "if they indeed, put the spikes in the box -- maybe they forgot." Anyway, after addressing my carpet spike concerns at length, he offered a PS/BTW of "sorry, about the sand". Nothing else.
Is negative feedback in order here. I say "no", but that might not necessarily be fair to others who might have to deal with similar issues in the future. This could have easily been avoided, and for such a major purchase (at least to me), you think such precautions would have been taken. Again, I'd rather just give a +1 with "fast shipment, excellent communication, yadda wadda bing bang!!!!!". What do you guys think?
btw the speakers sound unbelievable, but I'll start another thread after a little more listening:)I never had it like this where I grew up. Zero,
As always, I appreciate your input. I'm just going to let sleeping dogs lie in this case, as he's already written again and apologized -- as well as located the four remaining spikes to be sent to me today.
btw the Arros are very special speakers, indeed -- god bless they throw a wide stage!! My first surprise however (and not a bad one, mindya) is how recessed their presentation is. With all the write-ups and reviews concerning their palpable, 3D imaging (which is utterly true), it's odd to hear the stage begin somewhere slightly behind the speaker. I suppose I was suspecting it to be "thrown out" into the room.
But again, I'll save this for another thread.....I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. That is BS. I would be pissed at the seller. As much effort as I put into making sure my buyers get tip-top packing & service, and then guys like this get away with this crap! I would offer more than an apology, but that's just me. Anyways, it's up to you how you handle it.

Ugh... a few days?? Ah well.. I'm going in tomorrow in the AM and not leaving work till the next day pm... yup... it's a 32hr shift I got!
Anyway, regarding the packaging... all's well that ends well... Positive feedback is what I gave him.... after talking to him quite extensively, I get the feeling this was really quite an anomaly for this individual. Plus, he strayed quite a bit from his original asking price and has since answered any questions asked (or not asked) in detail.
Hang in there Joey.... the Arros are shy critters. It going to take quite a bit to get them to come out of their shell:D
Here's a question for any of you with some knowledge on the subject:
What the effin' deal with the Jolida/Totem debate? Seems like every thread I've come across has people yelling that its either the best possible combination imaginable, or that it's the most putrid partnership since Lisa Marie and Wacko-Jacko. This schism seems to be on par with the cable debate in some circles.....
Just curious -- but I'm thinking the fact that Totem uses different drivers for each of it's models has something to do with it...I never had it like this where I grew up. I considered it... but the way it "freezes" so easily kind of steered me away from it. All's good though, as I think I've cleaned it all up.:) It took about 3 hours (and infinite patience), but it looks new. It sounds even better:DI never had it like this where I grew up. Actually, I'm going to try it without and see where it takes me. According to Totem, while mass loading helps the Arros dig deeper in the bass department, it comes at somewhat of a cost. Kind of like setting your speakers to large as opposed to small. You get more bass, but you sacrifice a bit of imaging and midrange.
I have to tell you -- the most amazing things about these speakers is not their absolute surreal ability to image, but the amount of bass these things put out!! We're talking a speaker that is a shade under 3 feet tall, narrow as a toothpick, 12 lbs, boasting a single 4 1/2" driver -- and I haven't mass loaded 'em with anything.
I really don't think I'll need to. It's insane what they put out in the lower frequencies relative to their size.I never had it like this where I grew up.
