Well I did it. The CJ unit has found a new home. The deal from my dealer was just too good to pass up. It really wasn't that hard of a decision, especially since having the pre on demo loan for nearly a week. I was simply floored by how musical this piece is. Everything just took on a whole new dimension musically. I know I will be satisfied for quite some time now. My next move will be a CD player or maybe a DAC. What do you guys suggest? Budget around $1200. Thanks

Congratulation for your new preamp. With your budget, I would recommend the Arcam FMJ 33 cd player (from Audiogon).

Tony, I remember how excited you were when you got your Butler amp, an outstanding piece by the way. Well I feel the same way now that I have the CJ preamp. All music now creates a whole new listening experience. Everything sounds more live as if you're there in the first row. I really thought my NAD T773 receiver did a great job w/ 2 channel music but the CJ is just in a whole other league. For a do all receiver I can't complain at all but once you start to experience separates is when you really start to understand what listening to music is all about. The sheer dynamics, clarity, soundstage, the glorious bass which I knew my speakers were capable of but they never really had a chance to show, well they sure are kicking it out now, tight & powerfull & the list goes on & on are now what I am experiencing on a whole new level of precision & enjoyment. And all of this is happening using a HK DVD/22 as my CD source. My next demo piece from my dealer will be a Consonance CD-120 player. It's gotten great reviews & I know I can get a great deal on it also. It really does pay to build a relationship with a dealer that you like & he really understands your needs & wants while keeping within your budget. You'd be surprised a lot of gear that you thought you could never afford come within your grasp because of that relationship.

An excellent Redbook player under your 1200 budget is the Jolida, check it out, they have some magic of their own.

Having an external DAC will lend more flexibility, on the other hand, standalone players are less expensive...it's a choice.
