IMO it's all a marketing ploy. This marketing ploy usually starts from manufatures like Sony and the likes and feed this to brick and mortar store employees.

yes the marketing vps from sony as well as the other manufatures got together at this top secret meeting about a year ago and decided to cook up a 1080p conspiracy to try to con the world out of there hard earned money.....

Just do yourself a favor, and wait until the 1080p sets with 1080p inputs come out at the end of the summer and do some comparisons with a true 1080p signal (such as blu-ray).....
    Speakers: LSi9 x 2, LSic, LSiFX x 2, Velodyne HGS-15
    Amps & Power: Rockford Fosgate T8004 x 3, Cascade Audio APS-55 power supplies x 5, and 1 farad capacitor.
    Electronics: Denon 3806, Toshiba HD-A1, & Sony KDL46XBR2
Accessories: Anti-IC interconnects, 8 Mondo Traps from Realtraps, and Salamander furniture.

I don't need to wait. I am telling you now, that 1080i/1080p, YOU and everyone else will NOT see a difference. So, go run out a purchase your Blu-ray because you think that 1080p will be that much of a difference. When you talk about these two 1080i/1080p, Frame Rate is the only difference, and today's tv's like LCos, LCD, PLASMA's, etc do an excellent job tricking the eye.

I don't want to cause an arguement over this, so please go out and purchase it and see for yourself.

HD-DVD on a 1080p set (yes, I know 1080i deinterlaced to 1080p, big deal) looks much better than on 720p set. I admit some of it is because my 720p set isn't as good quality but a lot has to do with the difference in resolution.

That Samsung (HL-R6168W) looks absolutely incredible with both HD-DVD and HD broadcast.

I guess i have better eyes than some people. I have seen the same material in both 720p and 1080p. Guess what. 1080p looks much much better. Also will do a demo with 1080p vs 1080i when blu-ray comes out.

Sickicw, I am just curious what 1080p content have you seen? Other than WMV HD Content I wasn't aware of this media being available yet. Let me know what titles etc, are in 1080p. thanks!:)

As of this point in time, the choice of 1080p sets that accept a 1080p signal are very limited. So I won't enter the 1080i/1080p input to a 1080p arguement.

But there is a differance between 1080p and 720p. a 50" 1080p display can easily match the picture quality of a 40" 720p display. And size matters :)

Disclaimer: The above statement is based on viewing HDTV content. Your viewing pleasure will vary, and may be less with SDTV content.

In the attached image. The outside picture and fax viewer window is 1080 (1920x1080), the inner image is 720 (1280x720).
