Using R50's as a center?
Hey guys, I am running a pair of R30's as you all know and I am loving it!
Anyways, Can I use a single R50 as a center since it is A LOT cheaper than getting a CS1?
The R50's uses bigger woofers also, but it's much longer than a regular center.. would this be possible and correct? thanks!

The Reaper uses an R50 for his center channel ,according to his system pics anyway, you can try looking in the system showcase to see how he did it.Casey

if you can configure it in your set up (since its a floorstander) it will work perfectly fine. would you use it as a floorstander (on the floor) or would you put it on its side on top of a TV ( a large one, i hope)Living Room 2 Channel -

it'll be on a TV, I put my r30 on there and it is fine, but I am guessing the R50 would be a little longer.

the only problm I can see is that since it is a floor stander at around 37'' the tweeter will be off set either to the left or right depending on how you set it up and it won't center the voice coming out of it to the tv, but if the tv is large enough you could move it enough to center it up, but I'am no pro so I could be wrong maybe someone else could chime in and clear this upCasey

↑ That was my thought to the subject as well. It should work fine if you can get it centered...
Is there some crazy way you could get it to sit on the floor like it normally would? Keeping it on the floor would probably help maintain some clarity and bass extension. -
Screw it's base into the ceiling.

I've only seen floorstanders successfully used as center speakers in HT's with projectors or wall-mounted flat-panel displays.

I think a physically smaller speaker would work better. No need to have a 3 foot center speaker, where most is just cabinet. Small bookshelf's might be difficult to find as a "single" but it's worth a try.
