Velodyne is usually right up there in the top of the lists for subs in most people's rating systems.
Although the models are the key. I think when people think of Velodyne and top of the line, they think the DD series. -
Don't remember the series its the one that can adjust to games, movies, by pushing buttons with a blue led.Setup:

That would be the DPS series. I my self just ordered the DPS-12. I can't wait to get it in.

Circuit City sells Velodyne. The VRP and the DPS series.

I think Velodyne, and especially HSU and SVS are everyone's favorites on these forums. I personally like Velodyne because they handle music alot better than any sub I've ever heard (polk, infinity, yamaha, klipsch, etc...)
I think Velodyne subs walk all over Polk subs. HSU and SVS- that's another matter. Never heard EITHER of these- and prob. don't want to- i'd be too afraid of getting the upgrade bug.
The baddest sub i've ever listened to is STILL the DD1812. -

Hi,
As was mentioned there is a wide range of Velodyne subwoofers, but it stands to reason that Velodyne, who specializes exclusively in subwoofers, would likely be better at it than Polk Audio who continues to diversify it's line of speakers and audio equipment.
I'm a loyal Polk Audio fan and I use a combination of various types of vintage and new Polk speakers for my home theater. The only exception is for the subwoofers. I've got a 15" Velodyne Digital Drive for my LFE subwoofer and concealed in columns on the sides I'm using two more compact subwoofers designed by Bob Carver. I'm very pleased with the subwoofers, particularly the Velodyne.
I went out to Fry's on-line store, and didn't see any Velodynes on sale.

I didn't go to the store, but there is one in the SF Bay Area ad,
http://newspaperads.mercurynews.com/ROP/ads.aspx?adid=2089797&advid=32664&type=
The VRP-1000 is on sale for $249 and the "fine print":
o 10" Forward Firing
o 115 Watts RMS
o 170 Watts Peak
o Video Shielded
o Phase Adjustment

I've listened to most of the lines from velodyne. imo the vrp's and vx's aren't all that hot. If you're into Velodyne- i would start with the CHT's and work your way up.

Frys won't be discounting the better Velo subs anytime soon. Wait til the line has been in store for a while, then maybe they'll deal. Personally, I wouldn't go for anything less than the DPS or DLS-R Series which replaced the CHTs.

Until or if I ever need more power to drive better speakers, it's more than enough. Don't want or need Zone 2 or the video features of the higher models. EQ would be nice, but EZset is very close to my SPL settings. For the price, I couldn't ask for more.
Great tip...thanks.

Velodyne makes great high end subs.
If you are looking to spend under $1200 I would look
at SVS and HSU..Pio Elite 60 in 1080p PRO-150FD KURO
Integra DTC-9.8 - Pio Elite BDP-95FD
Cinenova Grande 3 ( 600W x 3 ) - Polk LSi15s, LSiC
Outlaw M2200s x 2 ( 300W x 2 ) - Polk LC265i x 2
Velodyne HGS-15X -
This will be interesting. Velodyne generally does not like it when chain dealers mark their subs down too much.
However, Fry's is notorious for blowing units out at 1/2 price or less.
The big 3:
Velodyne makes an excellent range of subs.
HSU makes superior subwoofers below $1000 each and they are coming out w/ the new HO series.
The last time I auditioned SVS subs was 2 years ago: the PC+ 20-39. Very good sub.
However, I think they are overhyped which is tough considering they are high quality subs.
However, I am biased or really qualified to comment, b/c I sell 2/3 of these subs. -
I am very happy with my Velodyne DLS 5000R sub.....Well under $1000 and probably one of the most overlooked and underrated subs....best bang for the buckPanasonic 50" Plasma + Pioneer 6010
Toshiba XA2 HD-DVD
Panasonic BD30 Blu-Ray
Pioneer 1014

I don't know that it's under-rated, I've heard nothing but good things about your sub. 15",plenty of power, EQ, remote and a Velo. Congrats. Bring it to my house
