Just curious as to how many of you folks buy the "previously viewed" DVD's from either of these places, versus buying new. If not, why not?

90% of my dvd's were bought pre-viewed (used).

I am buying very few DVD's; only the ones I know I will enjoy watching more than once, either for the movie itself or for some exceptional plus...like great sound. The rest I leave to BB on line.

I've never bought previously watched DVD's, and the only reason I can think of is to avoid any potential issue (scratches, etc). 95% of the time I buy on the release date at Walmart; average cost around $15. The other 5% I buy on closeout prices on older movies.

3/$25 and 30 day garauntee, not bad in my book (BB)
There is no genuine justice in any scheme of feeding and coddling the loafer whose only ponderable energies are devoted wholly to reproduction. Nine-tenths of the rights he bellows for are really privileges and he does nothing to deserve them. I get allmost all my movies previously viewed. At B/B I can look at them and find one that is in good shape and I have never had any problems yet. Knock on wood.

:D Hell I just get mine from Ron P, whenever he puts them in the Flea Market. :D Who needs BB, when You got Ron.

And the only time I buy new DVDs is on the release date, when Wally world has them for $13-16 each, and when Fry's sells some for $5-8.

Never had any problems at all. Most of my library is either previoulsy viewed, or previously owned or on close out.

That's by far the best thing about dvds and cds. You can buy them used and 95% of the time, there's no difference between them and new ones in terms of PQ and SQ. I remember having to replace my favorite cassettes, whether music or video, at least once a year due to wear.

Over half my DVD collection is 'previously viewed'. I've got about 200 movies or so, not sure how much $$$ I have in my movie collection, as some were bought really cheap.

All of my music collection was bought new. If you figure an average of $15 per CD, I've got about $45,000 in CDs alone. That's $45,000 folks, not $4500. Sad thing is, I'm sure several of you have got me beat. And that $15 is actually low, because I've got a bunch of SACDs and multi-disc sets. I bet I've got over $50,000 in my music collection.

I used to be a collector. I collected games and utilities on floppies, colorado jumbo tapes, dat tapes, cds. Then I started collecting VHS movies, records, 8 tracks, cassettes, cds then mp3s etc., etc., ad nauseum. 99.99% of that crap just sat there until I finally threw it all away. The most valuable part of my collection was the cases from the CDs, I gave them to my kids so they could have something to put the blanks they burned in.

When I want a movie I rent it, it's easy enough to find. I don't waste space and money on crap anymore. Just my opinion but take a look through those gazillion dollar collections and think about how much of it you actually use.

Although I don't have a gazillion dollar DVD collection, I do get quite a bit of replay value out of just about all of them. I have however upp'd my DVD purchasing "criteria" to prevent massive bones from floating out of my wallet! And I have seriously cut down on the re-purchase of a DVD re-release, even though that wasn't a real problem before - to me, that's just robbery, especially if a DVD re-release is coming out within 6 months of the original (like Sin City, so I hear).

I'll only buy a movie I have already seen and never pay more than $20. (My wife bought my Starship Troppers 2, and now I have a piece of crap taking up space on my shelves. I also offered a new DVD to my daughter for good grades and she wanted catwomen for $40. I refused, 3 weeks later it was $19.99). I've never had a problem with used DVDs, but sometimes they leave out the insert (although usually not). But Ballbuster seems to have some crappy prices for a used DVD. If you wait a week after you see it used at Ballbusters, you can probably find it new for a buck less.
