Been doing alot of updates to the house and one (my most pround) is just recently got done laying wood floors in the mancave and the living / dinning room and hallyway. Boy what a job! Saved 3 bucks a square feet doing it my self..Thats almost 2k if you ask. But boy what difference the sound is vs the old carpet! The soundstage just opened up and rolls off very nicely. Almost seemed like the carpet muffeled the bass. Now more of a punch and the highs seem more crisp. Yeah the HT sounds great too with the SVS but who care about that :) Well anyway just snapped a few pics. Still got some clean up and few more peices of qtr round to tack in then on to the next.....

Enjoy Pauly

Nice job Pauly. Was it prefinished? Or did you have to go thru the ordeal of sanding and such?

    Hey Pauly,

The floor looks great and I agree that a slightly live room adds to the SDA experience. Let me suggest that you grab an allen wrench and take the gold accents off the AE pre. AE doesn't put them on their highest models anymore and I see why. I took that suggestion a couple months ago on mine and never looked back. It just blends much better with all my gear.

    Cheers,

No, I'll need someone more qualified than me! We were uncertain for awhile whether we should do it, but to enhance the SDA effect, there's no doubt now! Thanks for the great photos! :)

Looks like great work to me. I like the color stain you picked. Glad to hear you are pleased with the results.

How much of a pain was it laying your own wood? Wait, that sounded pretty bad.

Wasnt that bad doing. Was a little tedious but just kept telling myself how much $$ i was saving doing it myself.

This is interesting, I have travertine tile in one room, placed my SDA's in there and I was getting a ridiclous amount of echoe/reflections etc. It didn't sound right. In my carpeted room they sounded much better. Maybe it had something to do with the vaulted ceiling in the tiled room Vs a non vaulted ceiling in the carpeted room

Echos and reflections will hide many equipment or recording flaws. Personally I like a fairly dead room so I can hear all the imperfections. I like rooms without any particular sonic signiture to them although most any room has some signiture.

    Pauly,

I had a M1.0-t pushing some 1C's. I then upgraded to Parasound HCA-2200. Definite improvement no doubt. The mids and vocals cleaned up very noticeably. The bass improved as well. The biggest improvement was that the mids weren't in your face. They seemed to blended right with the rest of the music.

Now that I have SRS's, I'm starting to think that my amp has become my weak spot. :(
