    Hi. Welcome to the forum.

To answer your question: Sufficient is your call. You can do a lot better than the Sony, if upgrading is a possibility. If it's not, and you're stuck with the Sony, it should drive 55i's without problems, unless you listen at loud levels. The DB- series is a step above the entry-level receivers (for what that's worth), isn't it? You can do better-- but you might get by with it for a while. Read the thread HERE.

    bottom line:

i hate sony- but I had a de. you have a DB receiver- that's much better than my old 'de' monikor- as with the ES.

your DB840 will have a bigger power supply than my old de had. for two speakers at moderate volumes it will be fine.

I traded in my Sony DA4ES for a Denon 3805 last year. The Sony had more than enough power for my 7.1 system with RTi38 as fronts. I also tried it on the relatively low sensitivity Energy reference 22 Connoisseur that I normally use in my Stereo system. I don't find the 3805 sound any different so I guess Sony receivers can't be that bad. I also tried the Sony with my old Adcom GFA-555. The 555 seemed to do better only at very high volume. I think you will like the sound of your RTi55 powered by your Sony DB. Good luck!
