I just got a cheap set of B&W dm1600's. Cheap beacause one speaker has a dimple in the tweeter dome. How serious is this, and where can I get a replacement. Is it worth replacing?

See if the magnet is removable...

If so, it will show the dome - and you can press it back out...

Is it soft or hard dome?

Thanks, I will look at it. I'm trying to keep a low profile-The Mrs. doesn't know about these yet! Its not a silk, or a metalic, more like a stiff plasic? What does everyone think of the vintage B&w sound? I have listened to the 602 s3, and though they sounded quite good. I listened to these before buying, but the source and/or setup made these and the 805's he had sound muddled.
I hope to be able to set them up for listening when the Mrs. is out of town later this week. If they work out, I'll have to dump the other bookshelves I have stashed away. BTW, Sid, the Nad 917 tuner sounds great! Much better reception that the beater Yamaha I was using.

Yeah, the NAD / with an antenna has an awesome tuner section, and even a good one WITHOUT one.. so if you didnt plug anything up for the FM tuner, there isnt an antenna... ;) - but in case you DO decide to plug an antenna up, it uses a coaxial, like the ones you will find with the cable connection... (IE: Time Warner Cable)

Glad you are enjoying it, and yep - the dimple should pop right out, just dont press hard...

when i had a dimple in the dust cover of a woofer i used my vacuum to get them out. i covered the end with my hand though so i could break the suction instantly. worked on a woofer, i don't know how succesful you'd be with a tweeter though.

I got the DM1400's (recent purchase) fun bookshelf to listen to. Like them little better than the newer B&W's, but ive heard some say they like vintage B&W much better, but i guess its a matter of preference. The DM 1400's have mounted stands filled with leadshot. hence they weigh a friggin ton. Solid mid and bass performance from such a small speaker. The highs can be just a tad harsh depending on the music, but that might be more my equipent and listening area than anything else. also, i believe my DM 1400's have a silk dome tweet, not plastic.

Yes, these are the speakers. I Can't figure out for the life of me how to get the tweeter out. looks like the bottem part of the tweeter bracket is locked in uder the bass speaker. There are screws at the top under a chrome cover. I don't see any screws for the bass, and the trim ring is glued down. Tuff nut to crack. The back connection cover has no screws, so I can't pull it for a look. I'm afraid I'll bust it up before I get it apart.

Try using some tape to pull the dome out to its original shape.

The dome is separate from the magnet. I found a a B&W hotline for tech support/parts 978-664-2870. They gave me the trick to remove the tweeter and a price for tweeter and a price for just the dome. I think since the dome is reasonably priced, I'll just order a dome and be done with it. Thank you everyone for your input.
