aaaaaaaaarhg!!

Am I just a moron or is the labelling convention just out of wack? Sometimes they label the side of the DVD that you must have UP as "widescreen" and sometimes they label the side of the DVD that actaully contains the widescreen program as "widescreen".

I always always always always get it wrong and have to get out of my comfy chair and flip the @#$ disk.

sigh (now out of breath from rant).
No earth robot is going to tell ME which button to press!!

i can see how that would be annoying, but if you stress over little crap like that, you're going to die an early, unpleasant death. Probably of heart attack.

My suggestion? Load the DVD, stand by the player until the movie starts, and if it needs to be flipped, flip it.

If only all the worlds problems could be this easy to fix.
    Ludicrous gibs!

Well this was sort of a tounge-in-cheek rant but a rant none the less. ;-)

Stand by the DVD player? Hmmm....now that could work. OF course, that WOULD mean extra standing after work though :D

Or read what it says on the little print ! :D
I used to feel the way you did as well. Now I make sure what ever mode I want to watch faces UP ( well not the side but the print) standing by the dvd player with all those previews and set up and ads can have you standing for a while especially when it's the damn Warnings of copying in 10 languages

I think you missed the point of the post...but your advice is still what I'd suggest...

The problem is that 'face up' method doesn't always work. Although in my experience, this has always worked, but I don't own that many double sided discs like this.

Now see I TRIED that and therin lies the problem, I think. The movie in question was Fat Albert. It went as far as to say "Wide screen (this side)". What it actually should have said is "widescreen this side UP" because the widescreen program was on the OPPOSITE side from the side that was labelled "Wide screen (this side)".

This assumes of course my DVD player doesn't have its laser on the top firing down which I will assume not since there's about 1/4" between the top of the tray and the top of the unit

I think some companies "convert" for you for people that dont think about which way the laser fires, and some don't.

Although your advice would have worked in the case...

Have I made a big enough deal out of this yet?? :D:cool:

Fat Albert in wide screen ? :D

I know what you are saying they only say widescreen or regular screen. They have not figured out to add this side up/side down.

    Now that's funny. :-)

Imagine if I watched the wrong side though...it would have been stretched 4:3!! ;-)

My experience is that the side that says widescreen goes up no matter what. The label is always on the opposite side of the desired content.
For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...

Geez maybe its just me - that seems to be the concensus but I know I found some "backwards" ones. Wish I could remember some examples...
