7b's converted to center channel
Hello fellow Polk enthuthiasts,
I have used the two midbass drivers with one Peerless tweeter from my Polk 7B cabinets to make a center channel speaker. I am not a experienced speaker builder so I thought I could experiment and construct the cabinet to the same demensions as the CS2 model at Circuit City which also has two 6 1/2" and one 1" tweeter.
I have a few questions on using the stock crossover from the 7B monitor.
I plan on parralelling the two 6 1/2's should be ok at 4ohms?
Box demensions are 7- 3/4 H x 21-1/4 W x 11-1/8 D
I will be using a 2" flared port 3"long ported on rear.
I am not shure if I will be getting midrange lobbing effects?
Should I be considering a three way x-over?
What are the x-over points for the stock 7B?
Any other suggestion?
I am waiting on the port to come in from
Parts X-press, then I'll jump right in!
Cheers! Neoman:rolleyes:

Yes I got carried away and cut up one 7B cabinet. Thought I would use it until I saw it was made of particle board, did'nt cut very clean. Its ok because I have one of the 7B's cab left. If the center channel experiment does'nt work I'll build better cabs and resurect the monitor 7's! By the way I'm using 5 jrs with silver coil tweeters as mains, needed to save on space. Hope that peerless out of the 7 is a close match.

I hate to see the 7's destroyed if they were good. Seems that you could pick up some used drivers and tweets off of ebay especially if you are going to build the cabinets anyway.>

Ugh... sorry to read that.
Somehow I got Monitor 10 in my head earlier.
Contact Ken Swauger, Polk Customer Service, and he'll send along schematics for the model 7B and 10B. I'd think you're looking at a hybrid of these two x-overs, i.e., circuit for the 10B using component values for the 7B.More later,

Well.... at least it wasn't an original Mon 7... That'd be a hangin' offense for sure...
Suggest you call Ken rather than e-mail him.More later,
