Why do you SVS owners feel compelled to recommend SVS everytime someone asks a question about subwoofers. The guy asked for info/opinions regarding Velodyne and Polk. If he asks about SVS, go for it, otherwise stick to the question at hand.

Thanks Frank Z. You saved me from asking why SVS are so good. So what is your opinion Frank? Personally I would like to get Velodyne SPL-1200 but it is out of my range. I cannot afford it. So what you say about Velodyne VA-1012X Series II? I could probablly get it for under $250? Or is Polk PWS505 better for movies like also music wise?

    Dangit...

We understand Frank has a thing against SVS, because their big and bad...

He owns a Sunfire, he likes it, he recomends it. We know it.

Polk has nothing on Velodyne except the PSW 1200 and the LSiW - two of which are discontinued and no longer available.

Velodyne makes great subs, for the money - SVS or HSU will absolutely beat them. 100%

More solid output, lower extention, everything.

But, Velodyne is a great subwoofer, and you wouldnt go wrong. However, it is out of the league of Polk. No comparison. The PSW 505 is a good subwoofer, it just isnt a subwoofer you'll want to watch a movie with any type of low end extention. Velodyne can hit low, but SVS can hit down to 18hz with 400 + s

Why do we recomend SVS? Because they're some of the best things for the money, and we as forum members want newbies and regulars alike to get the best thing possible...

Sid, aren't you supposed to be studying for a urine test or something?

I've got nothing against SVS, I've got a problem with everybody that owns one trying to cram it down everybody else's throat every time I log onto this forum. There are plenty of high-performance subs out there and not everyone wants to own an SVS sub....AKA The Fugly Pickle Barrel.

Velodyne makes a fine sub and might be just the ticket for you, or it might sound like crap in your room. The only way to know for sure is to try one. Could be that the Polk 505 will perform beautifully for you as well. You can listen to as many opinions as you like, but nothing is going to beat an in-home audition. Maybe not practical, but it's really the only way to know for sure.

Seems that some folks are looking for positive reinforcement of their decision to purchase a particular brand of sub by getting other to buy the same. I musta bought a good sub cuz everybody else is buying it too....yipee!

Your ears, your music, your room. Don't buy anything based on what you've been told, buy based on what you hear.

    Who said Velodyne was bad?

    I know I didnt...

And if you dont want a 'pickle barrel' get a box sub...hello??

I understand you dont want to be like the crowd, but it dosnt change the fact of what value HSU, Adire Audio, and SVS hold over the market.

You may not want to admit it, and dont want to accept it - and you may be tired of that fact, but...does it really matter?

Well I highly doubt the reason this guy is looking for a sub is cosmetics, which SVS's look good regardless - so that isnt even the point...

This argument has happened how many times...?
I don't have much experience in either sub besides the fact that I don't like the Digital Sound Processing in some of the Velodynes, I like to keep my speakers simple including my speakers, I do know that Polk does keep it simple.
If you feel comfortable enough with wood working, you can build you own sub, just a thought.

Low end Velodyne subs and Polk subs are about the same.

I listened to many of both and for the money on both sides of the fence , your fine. Polk psw505 is a fine woofer for the money. Your not spending alot and not getting alot. Same with Velodyne , if you want a good sub from them, your gonna have to save more money. They don't get really good untill you spend over a grand with them. All there subs under that are sub par.

The SVS thing??? I have heard 2 of them and I'm not impressed. I agree with the ugly comments. There sick looking.

I agree with the PSW505 as a starting and ending point for the current Polk lineup. I don't have much experience with higher end Velodyne, but the low end is nothing amazing.

SVS is an excellent choice, but certainly don't limit yourself to them as a choice.

Outlaw and HSU would be very nice alternatives, in an affordable bracket. I just helped a friend buy a complete Outlaw package, to include two Outlaw subwoofers...needless to say he's pretty thrilled.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I have checked the HSU and as a cabinet stand they are not looking too bad and the reviews are really great. GaryZ06 thanks for the coment about Velodyne but as I said I don't want to spend more than $500. I don't have too much money and I need a subwoofer. I made my mind and I am returning my CSi3 and getting CSi5. I think it would be worth it.
Another question: For my speaker set up what would be better
    - HSU VTF-2 MK 2 OR HSU VTF-3 MK 2
What do you think about my HK DPR-1001? I think I need some more power, right???

If you have a tweeter nearby (the store, not the transducer!), they have Polk and Velo. subs. Do a demo and figure out which one you like best.

The Outlaw subwoofer is practically identicle to the HSU VTF 3 - infact, Dr. HSU helped designed it...

    Great sub...

Polks newer subs are closer to competeing with Velo. - still arnt quite there. Both dont compare with HSU or SVS in the price range he is looking in

Actually I got to hear the Outlaw sub setup by Outlaw themselves.

I was impressed. For that kind of money, it's going to be very hard to beat. I feel it's a step above the Lower end Velodynes and Polk subs.

    So much fun shopping,

Frank Z did you have a chance to hear the performance of the above specified by sub? What do you think? Does it kick a*s SVS SV25-31PCi and HSU VTF-3 MK 2? I want something good but cheap and those are reasonable prices for me.
