Time to make another contribution --
George had pics of these before, but I figured I would post some more/better pics of them!- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
Here is the inside of a onkyo T-404 tuner. as you can see there is room enough left over for 4 more inside lmaooo
REGARDS SNOWWell, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all -
I am bored, and you are paying the price.
Here are the innards of a somewhat bastardized Heathkit SS-1 speaker from the 1950s. The woofer is a Jensen P8RX, not the P8RL that should be in there. Indeed, the P8RXs I have look to me to be recones, but so it goes.
Found the speakers at the dump some years back, with nasty R/S 8" woofers replacing the Jensens but the RP-103 horns intact and working. Bought the P8RXs to replace the R/Ss; one of my first eBAY purchases.
Finally found a good home for these (besides my basement, that is).
Some info on these speakers at: http://members.myactv.net/~je245/vintagebudgetspks.htm -

Very simple but not necessarily in a bad way. -

They actually sound pretty good. Amazingly present and lifelike midrange.

My Cambridge Audio 840C has arrived! First impression versus. . . Oppo/PS Audio Trio A-100, What? Kick that duo to the curb. The Azur is in the house!

... and way, way at the other end of the spectrum...
How about an S-5 Electronics "K-12" kit (actually the almost identical K-502 from www.tubesandmore.com, which used 11BM8 tubes instead of 11MS8s), with its seldom-seen factory enclosure kit?
This very modest amp is very nice sounding and a great intro to tube kit building or tube hifi for that matter.
Happened to have the top off Saturday and snapped a few photos in the morning sun.

If you are referring to the round blue casing, that is a transformer. Its an off the shelf sealed torroidal tranny, you can get them at Digikey or Mouser. For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore... -

Actually I was referring to that ...and I stand corrected....When I looked at the picture and saw the way the voltages were labeled at both ends of the component it was identical to the many solid state relays I had worked with over the years. When I saw where it was mounted on the board, and the ac coming in extremely close to it ...all pointed to ssr ....hadnt seen toroidal transformers encased that small before. I figured the transformer would be larger and remotely mounted. Good catch...I was so intrigued I looked up the manufacturer... http://www.amveco.com/Low_Profile_PC.htmThe first rule of Fight Club is you don't talk about Fight Club -
I popped the top on my Musical Fidelity A308. Not as robust as some the amps above but the best in my house so far. I am very pleased with the way it sounds. It makes me smile while listening instead of wishing for something better.I like speakers that are bigger than a small refrigerator but smaller than a big refrigerator:D

I see a drive motor for your large knob... interesting.

those three
got it? -
Very nice, dual mono using a pair of hefty looking toroids.MF have a great track history of making great sounding gear. The Audio store I used to work at back in the mid 80's carried the line and I have fond memories of the little
A1 integrated (20 watts pure class A) and the monsterous A470 and A570 beasts also pure class A.Testing

Musical Fidelity makes some robust but sensible innards.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Opened my B&K av5000, not long after I recieved it, to work on the gain pots. Its unbelievable how huge the transformer and the 4 blue ps caps are. The biggest I have seen so far.
