I have no idea here on this one and hope someone can lead me to the CD promised land. Looking to purchase a used 5 disc changer with a decent transport and D/A conversion. And what is the big advantage of Digital outputs over line level analog? I won't be playing any CD-R's, CD-RW's and the sort. Or HDCD's for that matter. I'll leave that stuff up to the Yammy. And I don't have a heck of a lot of coin to play with. Any suggestions?

A while back i picked up a arcam alpha mcd 6 disk changer and was really astonished with the analog side of this player,i only use the analog out on this player. It has digital coax out also.I picked it up from ebay for 3 bills.Compared it to my modded jd100 jolida and it was really close to sounding the same, minus some low end detail.Dont really see them around too much though.....Rotel rcd-1055 is another good multi player.*HT PRE-PRO*:Rotel rsp-1068, *AMP*:Rotel RMB 1095 *DVD PLAYER*:Denon 2200,*CD PLAYERS*,Arcam Alpha Mcd 6 disk carasel,Hughes Hdtv receiver, Hughes hdvr2,*MAINS*:Polk LSI 15'S, *CENTER*:Polk LSIC, *SIDE SURROUNDS*:Polk LSIFX,*REAR SURROUND*:Polk LSI 7'S,*SUB*:SVS PB2+*.MONITOR*:Mitsubishi ws48413 hdtv,Monsterpower hts2500X2,,Sony playstation2,Harmony sst-659 remote

I would suggest only what I know best....the Sony SCD-555ES(SACD).
It's been a staple for my system, and it won't be leaving but to move up to the next level....via sacdmod.com this month.
I love the convenience of a changer.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -
How about a 6 disk changer with Wolfson DACs for less than $200? Onkyo DX-C390.

Read the thread and then check out the review from the last post: Sony SCD-CE595
If it is anything like my SCD-CE775 then it is a decent changer for less than $150. SACD on mine is excellent but even if you don't use that feature the redbook is still quite good."Just because youre offended doesnt mean youre right." - Ricky Gervais

having digital out is advantageous if you dont like the sound of the DACs in the CD player. You can hook it up to an HT receiver via digital cable and use the DACs in the AVR....System 1: Martin Logan Vantage, Rotel RC 1070, B&K Reference 200.2, Music Hall DAC 15.2, Yamaha 2300
System 2: LSi15 w/db840, Marantz SR8400, Rotel 1080, RM6800 (C&S), Sony X2020ES
System 3: LSi7, Yamaha SW215, Music Hall Maven, Music Hall MMF CD25 w/627opamps
System 4: RTi100, Harman Kardon AVR 230, Panasonic DVD -
I've got a 10 year old Pioneer 25 disc changer I'll sell you.
It has an Optical (Toslink) Digital output, as well as analog outputs, but I believe the Right channel analog output doesn't really work all the time.
I'd sell it to you for like $25 plus shipping. And no, I don't have the original box, but I do have the original manual & the original remote.
It sounds as good as anything else for $25, and has 25 disc capability.Bob Mayo, on the keyboards. Bob Mayo. -
All interesting observations. Thanks guys. I should have mentioned that I do have an old Sony cdp-c215 5 disc changer but was just looking to upgrade. I also have the Yammy 2300 for SACD and DVD-A material.suds, suds and more suds!

Denon DCM 280...
EXCELLENT Dacs, can be had for like 90 bucks- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
Hmmm,
Onkyo DX-c3900
Denon DCM-370 or DCM-280
Sony SCD-555ES or CE595
The Rotels
And then there is this vintage Denon DCM-777 I came across.
By the way, the Yammy HTR5280/RXV800 reciever I picked up over the weekend is coming out of the rack...being replaced by my H/K 320. For H/T, the yammy is a killer but musically it is subpar to the H/K. The midrange just isn't there and doesn't sound as clean. Nope, for two channel listening and DVD-A/SACD it is back to the Harman. Now to find an amp.suds, suds and more suds! -

I second the Sony CE595 recommendation. 5-disc changer that's extremely well built, and you get SACD to boot. I really like mine.
Circuit City occasionally sells them for $139.99 -
I have been using my Sony SCD-CE595 SACD/CD changer for about 5 months and it's an excellent bargain. You can now get it for under $130.00 on the 'net. Leaving SACD playback capability aside, it's actually a very good CD player. Certainly worth the purchase price alone. However, once you add in SACD capability, then this machine becomes a screaming bargain. Of course, it have its shortcomings....no dedicated L/R analog outputs, no headphone jack, lousy remote, etc., but its sound quality is THAT good.
If you can stretch another $100.00, then the Sony ES version of the CE595, the C2000ES could be for you. Has everything the CE595 doesn't, plus a 5 year Sony warranty and aluminum front panel. -

Denon DCM280's for $55 refurbed on ubid.com. They also have the 380 (with HDCD) for $89. MSRP is $199 and $299 respectfully. -
I noticed the Denon DCM 280 mentioned. It's on U-bid right now for $55 & the 380 for $89. Bang for your buck? Either one of these would be a damn tough deal to beat.
