Made by C&H Supply, Dallas Texas, model 'Catalina'.

$12 for the pair, pretty nice finish on the cabs.

Don't you love that moment of anticipation, right as you get the last screw out to see what's inside?

    EV SP12B 16 ohm
    Magnavox Horn
    CTS Sealed-back midrange

The horn is in series off the woofer, with a couple caps inline (cant read the values). The mid is then paralleled with the horn.

Now, need to give them a listen, and see if they are staying in one peice, or getting stripped and SOLD!!!

    Cheers,
    Russ

a horn and what looks to be a whizzer coned midrange. Nice combo. What made you pick them up? Because they were $12? I'm not really sure if I'd pick something up like that seeing I'd have no use for them. Decent looking basket on the driver though.

Luxman T-4 Tuna, and L-5 integrated, each in original double box, with manual. More info? Email me.

It's a nullet-style horn midrange, it's 'floating' in the vent for the big EV 12". I buy and sell vintage / used gear. Besides, the cool factor is off the charts here for $12.

Those 12" EV drivers can fetch upwards of $250 for the pair - possibly even higher because they are the rarer 16ohm version. The mid and high horns probably $40 / pair, maybe a little more if a couple guys start fighting for them. You figure the profit potential, for about 10 minutes worth of work so far.

I may actually keep these, or at least 1 cab if I sell drivers. Been wanting to setup a tube mono FM rig for some time now, maybe load some University drivers in it.

    Cheers,
    Russ

 Damn, I had a pair of those 12" woofers (8ohm I think) in some EV Sentry's that my parents gave away with my Sansui amp. Maybe I can get those sum **** back too.

Good find Russ. I really liked those EVs, enjoy em.

Not surprisingly Orion has apparently never heard of C&H Supply. :D

    Nice going, Russ.

I 2nd Toxis' question.. Did you see the horns through the grills or did something else draw you to these?
    More later,

In the 50's and 60's, there were a lot of 'cabinet builders'. This wasn't limited to speakers, but also consoles.

One would go into a local shop, ala 'C&H Supply' and order their 'system'. They would pick the cabinet style, and the drivers to go in it. On console systems, they would also choose the model of receiver they wanted and maybe even add a turntable.

The last console unit I picked up, had a Fisher 800C receiver, and a pair of JBL D131. There were cutouts to add a tweeter, such as the 075 Ring-Radiator, but whoever ordered this console, opted just to run the 12" jbl's.

What drew me to them? Look at them man. Big, old, cool speakers. And the ride home, wondering what could be in them?

    Tannoy Reds?
    Altec?
    EV?
    JBL?
    Bozak?
    etc etc

    Cheers,
    Russ
