    Eh today...

We didnt do anything, had sunstitute...

    Anyways

    Russ, I received the package...

All looks well, gotta head to ratshack and get some 'quickconnects' for the terminals though, off to Ratshack I go!

Thanks man! I really appreciate it!

    Well...

    So far...

I have the Dacron cut to size, and the ends of the wire 'terminated' that I could do. I will pick up the other quickconnects later on this week...hopefully I can get this stuff assembled so I can listen to them BEFORE the end of the week...and listen to them over the weekend...

Didnt really do anything today, we watched Ace Ventura

But, tommorow the teacher will be back...

Anyways, in my spare and useless time i have been designing 'caps'

The fronts will be slightly larger and round out...

And the top cap will have a cut out, like a elispe just for no apparent reason, and you will be able to see the automotive carpet where it is cut away...

    This is just a thought

    today was proto-typing day...

I scavenged through the trash to find some 1/4" plywood to make a top cap...

The top cap is pretty cool, but I think I will make it WITHOUT the cut-in that is on the back...

But I like the overhang...adds a personality to it...

Hmm, now I just gotta see if these huge arse caps would count as free wood...hmm

If a man says something in the forest, and no woman is around to hear him - is he still wrong?

Get the pics developed already, ok?

    Cheers,

It makes a noise, but it doesn't make a sound. (Sound needs a Source, medium, and Receiver) :)

    Good one.

I just cant imagine him making these look like shotty pro-audio boxes with CARPET. Painted MDF alone will look outstanding compared to friggin carpet.

    I'm open to suggestions...

I was thinking more along the lines of Automotive Carpet like SVS uses

    Automotive Carpet with caps...

    This - http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=261-700

I just realized what cabinet carpet was... yuck

    HEHE!

Well, if I take all the pictures NOW**

I wont be able to take pictures when I am *done* ;)

I figure I will just tease you people with day to day updates!

Right now I have ALOT of sanding to do, but first I need to fabricate caps out of 1" thick pine that is reasonably flat before people snatch up all the wood...

Today was hard since everyone was using the Radial Arm Saw...

So I had to hand cut everything on the bandsaw, they turned out reasonable...

    stay tuned

Just a thought: You may have already considered it, but I didn't see it mentioned. For a nice black texture finish that's also durable, you can use that sprayable truck bed coating. Very poplular with the DIY speaker crowd. You can spray it over raw MDF without a lot of other prep- work (unlike most other methods of painting MDF) and it will hide minor imperfections. I've used it on several projects with good results.
The brand I've used is Duplicolor, from Walmart.

I'm at work now, so I don't have a picture handy but maybe can post one in a little while. If you use it just make sure to have adequate ventilation, as I think it's urethane-based and rather nasty stuff to inhale.

Maybe you can get an idea of what it looks like from this. It takes a little while for it to cure fully, but once it does it's hard and durable. Dust is obviously a little more difficult to remove, due to the texture.

    That does look nice, Jason...

Does it work on trucks? :D (Actually, I do need to do the bed of mine...)

    That looks pretty awesome dude...

Do you have a link to this stuff? I will keep it in mind as I go through my projects this year, I dont know if I will be using it on the black labs though...

Thanks for the pictures and tips!

Thanks :) My nicest-looking home built speakers. Probably because I didn't actually build the cabinets. The prefinished PE cabs are nice. I had to re-finish the baffle (and used the truck bed coating) because I screwed up the original finish when I was trying to route the holes for the drivers.

A link? Let's see... Try this: http://www.duplicolor.com/products/truckbed.html My local Walmart has it in the automotive dept for about $7/can.

I haven't tried it on a truck, but my guess is that it would be pretty good for a "lightly used" truck bed. Obviously, some people are a lot rougher on their trucks than others. I think under heavy-duty use this stuff would scratch off pretty easily. But then you could touch it up....

    Interesting...

So you just spray it on and thats it? It does the texture and everything?

How do you think it would work on 1" thick Pine wood? Would it have to be SUPER smooth to be right or?

This design, I am going to do like Definitives (since they are going in my room)

Wrapped in speaker grill cloth with caps...the caps are debatable -- flat black, textured black, etc...

Will look into that textured stuff for the caps...

    Big thanks!

Aw come on Sid, you have to stain those caps, so we can see how good of a sanding job you did. ;)
