Last week I purchased a Rotel RB-1080 amp to power my two main LSi speakers (25's) and am using my NAD T763 as a pre-amp for the pair. All I can say is.......wow! With this amp, the 25's really sing and I can really blast the tunes! I highly recommend Rotel equipment if you have LSi speakers. I finally have the music system I want!

I'm using a Sony CD/SACD/DVD player. I dont remember the model number, but it does pretty well. How much difference does the quality of CD/DVD player make when it comes to quality of sound with respect to music? It seems like there would be little difference between models or prices? Am I wrong?

The CD player or any source will make the biggest impact on your system. Begin with the source. It's true Speakers have a much more different sonic nature between them, CD players are divided between good and bad. DVD players make terrible CD players. Even an entry level NAD player will outperform most DVD players on Redbook. You're system is being handicapped by that DVD player trust me. When funds become avaliable consider the Rotel 1070 CDP which is a TAS product of the year.

If possible take your Sony DVD player to a dealer and have a shootout between the Rotel and the Sony. You'll be amazed at how much more information and sonics the Rotel will pickup that you're Sony misses. More dynamic range, increased bass response and more air between instruments.

Don't take my word for it though, go listen for yourself.

I agree with Lush, it'll make the biggest difference in the world. Another CD player to look at is the AH! Njoe Tjoeb 4000 with a tube output stage (sweet) and many upgrades available including 24/192 upsampling that take your redbook CD's to the top level of playback quality.
