Lets not go all pol on this because all-in-all it's a double edged sword. If you don't prop up big corp, then furloughs and layoffs go up exponentially leaving us with more of "the people" we need to help.
During the 2008 crash BofA, AIG, GE, GM etc took big prop up money too...

Good thread where we were getting some good insight from people close to the medical profession. Now it will be closed due to political bickering. Thanks. I am as much disappointed in what is going on in Washington but I don't share my view, because this is an audio forum and politics is out.

Again, this is a situation where politics comes into play, as well as the stock market, this thread has been great despite people having different views, as long as we all be adults and respect that. This is a time where we should be thanking the powers that be at Polk for letting us have these discussions

I have been enjoying this thread, lets help keep it open, this is a time where it's needed... IMO...

So as predicted at work they had a bunch of conference calls at the same time.
All channels in and out 100% busy. internet traffic at 100%.
    Everybody's working remotely.
All the techs are shaking their heads.
nothing we can do. Bucket is full.

Yep, work sites are definitely learning the weak spots in their IT infrastructure. This is one of a million lessons we'll learn going thru this, that will be VERY important going forward. The biggest problem we are having is getting enough systems into the hands of the people who normally don't work from home. There's been a huge rush on that stuff between businesses and schools so pickin's are slim right now. Even refurbs are flying out of inventories just to support this.

We have a robust VPN system, though, because roughly 55% of our workforce is/was remote/mobile so we don't have many issues on the VPN side of things. Especially with split-tunneling. So all the media traffic like conference calls and video/audio goes out the local internet connection and only sensitive stuff like email and network shares runs down the VPN connection.

Well, in Michigan, our Governor just issued a 3 week stay at home order. All non-essential businesses are ordered to shut down.

Grocery stores, pharmacies, gas stations, banks, etc., are to remain open. Drive thru or delivery services for restaurants are to remain open.

Historic times we are living in.

I love hearing stories like this and others. It reminds me of the American spirit, how we can come together in times of crisis to help each other. That's the America I miss, the America that didn't always need a crisis to do things to help one another.

    Morning stats so far....

    Coronavirus-
35.2 thousand cases reported in the U.S.
    471 deaths so far.

    Flu
    38 million cases
    390,000 hospitalized
    23,000 deaths.

Who's the better killer ? Which is the reason supplies are stretched ? Which is the reason hospitals are at their limits ?

U.S. FLU stats still surpass the whole world wide stats for CV.

Wow - that’s nimble thinking. So there was supposed to be a plan in place to deal with a “global pandemic”, but it’s ok that no one ever thought of Congress members having to vote remotely. Got it.

We’re not talking a moon landing here - face time, encrypted email, biometrics - there seem to be a lot of options. This should take a day at most to figure out.

This is cool! In case Walter needs it, he'll be covered!

    Here's the text:

    Dear David,

The ongoing Coronavirus epidemic has created a lot of stress, hardship, and confusion in the past few weeks. We are maintaining our commitment to provide the best care that we can with a family approach.

We intend to remain open for our clients and patients. We will be prioritizing medical appointments over well-health services, but appointments are available for all services.

As of Monday, March 21, 2020, we have transitioned to a "curbside" program. In order to protect our staff and other clients, we will not permit clients to come into the hospital except for euthanasias.

We will communicate with owners by phone and/or video calls. Our staff will be wearing Personal Protective Equipment (masks, gloves) and will transport pets from your vehicle in and out of the hospital.

On behalf of the staff here, I humbly ask for your patience and understanding. None of us want to create a separation with clients. We have a long tradition of exactly the opposite. This epidemic has forced all of us to make some drastic changes in the interest of public safety. It is my belief that we will see positive results with the quarantine orders, so these measures will be temporary.

With gratitude for the amazing support of our clients,
    -Dr. Hutchinson
