We need to get back to the philosophy of George Washington, and we need to find among us people that are more concerned about the fate of the nation and those they represent than they care about their own self-interest.

In an age where the public trough is an all you can eat(steal) buffet... good luck with that.

The current bailout package has 500B bailout for corporarions. This money will be handed out at the treasury departments discretion, this is the sticking point.

This money needs to be a TARP program like used during the great recession. That is where a company would offer discounted shares in return for bailout money. This way when the stock price recovered there was an actual profit to be made.

Plus there needs to be major oversight and transparency on how this money is appropriated.

Another story going around is that the Dems wanted a bill that benefited the people more, but got one that they deemed to benefit Wall Street too much.

What opportunity is that, please tell?

The corporate bailout portion needs to be a separate program/bill.

Notice I wasn't pointing fingers at anyone particular.

Lets not go all pol on this because all-in-all it's a double edged sword. If you don't prop up big corp, then furloughs and layoffs go up exponentially leaving us with more of "the people" we need to help.
During the 2008 crash BofA, AIG, GE, GM etc took big prop up money too...

Good thread where we were getting some good insight from people close to the medical profession. Now it will be closed due to political bickering. Thanks. I am as much disappointed in what is going on in Washington but I don't share my view, because this is an audio forum and politics is out.

Prop them up but don't allow them to buy back shares or give bonuses. Doesn't seem so difficult.

Again, this is a situation where politics comes into play, as well as the stock market, this thread has been great despite people having different views, as long as we all be adults and respect that. This is a time where we should be thanking the powers that be at Polk for letting us have these discussions

I have been enjoying this thread, lets help keep it open, this is a time where it's needed... IMO...

So as predicted at work they had a bunch of conference calls at the same time.
All channels in and out 100% busy. internet traffic at 100%.
    Everybody's working remotely.
All the techs are shaking their heads.
nothing we can do. Bucket is full.

Yep, work sites are definitely learning the weak spots in their IT infrastructure. This is one of a million lessons we'll learn going thru this, that will be VERY important going forward. Despite all the doom & gloom, adversity always teaches valuable lessons if you look at failures as times to learn.

The biggest problem we are having is getting enough systems into the hands of the people who normally don't work from home. There's been a huge rush on that stuff between businesses and schools so pickin's are slim right now. Even refurbs are flying out of inventories just to support this.

We have a robust VPN system, though, because roughly 55% of our workforce is/was remote/mobile so we don't have many issues on the VPN side of things. Especially with split-tunneling. So all the media traffic like conference calls and video/audio goes out the local internet connection and only sensitive stuff like email and network shares runs down the VPN connection.

Well, in Michigan, our Governor just issued a 3 week stay at home order. All non-essential businesses are ordered to shut down.

Grocery stores, pharmacies, gas stations, banks, etc., are to remain open. Drive thru or delivery services for restaurants are to remain open.

Historic times we are living in.

I love hearing stories like this and others. It reminds me of the American spirit, how we can come together in times of crisis to help each other. That's the America I miss, the America that didn't always need a crisis to do things to help one another.
