I’m watching the President’s daily news conference right now, and they also were using SF as an example of what can be done to slow down the spread of the virus.

I have family that opens everything from Amazon in their garages, with gloves on. Whatever is inside gets wiped down and sanitized. I get it, especially since Amazon warehouses have had a few outbreaks of the virus. Packing materials are from China too. They do the same grocery shopping, garage...wiped down before entering the house. Even bottom of the shoes get sanitized.
I have even stopped wearing shoes that have laces, so I don't have to touch my shoes when I enter the house again. All clothes get taken off, things that I have in my pockets wiped down or cleaned with Clorox w/bleach for at least 30 seconds with a saturated cloth, then I immediately head to the shower after I start laundering what I just took off. Slippers are now quarantined in the garage and/or wiped down.
I am the only one designated in my household to leave the house, just to reduce the risk.
When I am out and about (work), I carry a gallon sized Ziplock bag with a heavily saturated Clorox w/bleach cloth with me. Every time I get back in the truck, it's like a ritual. 5 minutes of wiping down my hands, phone, keys, Credit cards (I no longer bring in my wallet, just one CC) along with anything I touched while outside of the vehicle. Then I wipe down my door handle.
All non-perishable food sits in the garage quarantined for 3 days and perishable foods are immediately washed after sitting in the hot, soapy sink for a couple of minutes. If the perishables can't handle the cleaning and soaking, we do not buy them. Anything plastic or things like milk jugs get wiped down thoroughly before entering the home. Much like that video I provided on the PSA thread.
I may only be in the 1% bracket for this thing taking me out but I don't feel like playing Russian roulette right now. I gots things I want to do in life and I'd like to go see my parents at some point.
There are other things I do to stop this "invasion" into my home but I don't want to bore people, as I am sure I already have. Just plan ahead, be safe and hope for the best.
*Steps off soap box*
I'll shut up now.
TomA recent study in the New England Journal of Medicine suggested that the virus could stay on cardboard for 24 hours and plastic and stainless steel for 72 hours, although the overall concentration fell significantly by that time. But the practice of quarantining and then sanitizing food containers before putting them in the refrigerator or pantry isn't necessary, Chapman said.
"We don't have any evidence that food or food packaging are transmission vehicles for coronavirus," Chapman said.
The whole reason people are sharing what they think are common sense tips like that "viral video" mentioned in the article, and you, Tom, detailing your process (thanks for taking the time, btw) is to try to help people because we've not been given any credible process adjustments to make. All of the "authorities" seem to keep chopping and changing their positions on questions posed. It's mixing everyone up, and creating uncertainty.
No one knows for sure about any of this stuff right now. Masks, no masks. Wash, your stuff, no don't. And they're saying using soap to wash fruits and vegetables can make people sick. I use Dawn all the time to wash the wax preservative off my apples. It's never made me puke or given me schiits [audio products], and it's always rinsed cleanly enough to where I can't taste it, and squeaky clean. I'm pretty sensitive to stuff like soap residue.
I hate the news. They all suck. I swear I felt like a reporter was getting excited on the news the other night talking about the dire situation for the healthcare workers and number of deaths near the hospital he was covering. I couldn't help thinking, this kid's getting excited realizing/thinking that this is a juicy story, and it was all horrible, sad news about worry, pain, and suffering.Post edited by msg onI disabled signatures. -

And there are 3,000+ dead and they expect a 50 fold increase by this time 3 weeks from now? Geez.

Maybe if NY took it a tad more seriously, as late as early March they were still telling people to go out, as they normally would. Ny accounts for over half those dead, maybe we should just quarantine hot spots.
Now it's 3 weeks from now ? What happened to the next 2 weeks ? Will a month from now we will be hearing the next 3 weeks will be crucial....again.
Kiddy up Joey, ya got roughly 197 thousand to go . To me, and for having this virus 3 months already with only a tad over 3k dead, we are doing ok considering all the supply shortages, people disobeying stay at home orders.
Btw, the flu count so far I believe is 16k, those deaths get no news coverage or concern. Let's hope those trailers see minimal use.HT SYSTEM-

Finally, I get to have a conversation with someone more reasonable than Tony
I get the numbers Jesse.
But that’s a spread over 4 to 5 months, there is not a surge as other parts of the world have seen and we might see as with covid.
In addition, that’s without significant protocols for stay at home and social distancing.
To put it into perspective, compare that 80,000 to the over 800,000 that might have happened had we acted like this is “just the flu”.
Also, that death number does not show the severity index. Icu usage is double with covid than flu.
I get your point, there’s some media bloat with covid and dust the flu under the floor mat media approach, but there is a significant difference between many measurable parameters between the flu and covid, no matter how you slice it.Joey's Gear:

Interesting chart I saw at the WH briefing today. They presented the latest of their analytical models. Hard to see, I'm trying to get the source file, but you can see some trends. (Edited to show clearer graph).
Top two curves show NY and NJ.
What's encouraging to me here is that most of the other states are showing a much lower curve.
Also encouraging, 2 curves, CA and WA, are actually showing a flattening or decline.

Joey, the article Jesse posted with the 80k dead from the flu....3 or 4 months, is still a short period of time for hospital beds, supplies needed, personnel.
Not a peep out of anyone for help. No news coverage proclaiming " 10 more dead from the flu in NY." No stories about someone's grandmother dieing from influenza A ....oh the tragedy. That's my point, nobody cared about those 80k people, why should anyone care about these....3k....maybe 30k by the time it's over. Because it put stress on the HC system ? That was woefully unprepared to begin with.
Your comparing conjecture, computer models, guesses....to hard historical fact.
.....and I'm the unreasonable one ?? Almost sounds like your wishing these predictions come true. Not me....HT SYSTEM-
