RTi70 active or passive 2'nd driver
I was reading the th'ds in the HOS, and read a post that said the RTi70 has one active driver and the other is passive. Is this a true statement? I was under the impression that both the 6-1/2" drivers are active.

I can't imagine Polk putting in an extra driver and not connecting it.

It would be called a passive radiator if it's not connected.
I also think it is active, but this is based on no solid facts.Bob Mayo, on the keyboards. Bob Mayo. -
They are both active drivers. Look at the Rti12 or 10 on the bottom, those are what the passive radiators look like. There are two ways to argue with women. Both of them are wrong.

Those are 7" drivers (or are you just saying that's what they could look like). Passive radiators on speakers I've owned were completely flat, with a rubber/foam surround.

Thanks for all the input everyone.
I guess it's no surprise the th'd I read that in has ended up in the HOS.Bob Mayo, on the keyboards. Bob Mayo. -
In the old RTi70 discussions, the bottom midbass on the RTi70 was basically considered passive, as some people (I did for a while, until told otherwise) thought that the bottum woofer only played the lower freq. (2.5 way) - therefore, passive. Not really passive, was just considered passive.
All in all, it is a 2 way as said above........
Actually, mine is a 1 way. I unplugged the tweeters. Then I set the RT5 on top of it......me like. hehe, hope this explains it.- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
Are the two 6 1/2's crossed over differently or the same?
-
The same, I believe it is like 2.2khz or 2.3khz -- something around there. It is in the RTi70 section on the polk homepage in the specs...- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

Electrical
Overall Frequency Response 28Hz-27kHz
Lower -3dB Limit 40Hz
Upper -3dB Limit 26kHz
Nominal Impedance 8 ohms
Recommended Amplifier Power 20-250 w/channel
Efficiency 90 dB
Crossover 2.1kHz between mid-bass drivers and tweeter; 2nd order HP/LP complement. Mylar bypass capacitor in HPF.
Inputs Dual bi-amp 5-way binding posts
Those are the specs from the RTi70 specs. page on the site. It seems the (2) 6-1/2" midbass drivers are operating at the same range. Thus, the design is a 2 way, not a 2.5 way.
I guess I'll go home tonight and stick my ear right up next to the 2 midbasses, just to verify they are both playing.Bob Mayo, on the keyboards. Bob Mayo.
