Been doing this for years also worked well with the jump boots I wore in the army that's when I first started doing the water trick.

Ok now it makes sense. I had visions of fulling up the tub and letting them surf it up lol

I did something like that unintentionally with some leather sandals. (Hey, it was the '70's, don't judge). I had worn them a half dozen times but they always chaffed different spots on my feet. I got caught in a rainstorm and they got soaked, but I wore them until they dried out. Never had another problem with how they felt after that.

I got a pair of Redwing Pecos for my 16th birthday. Over time I'd resoled them 3 times but the leather got so thin my foot eventually blew out the side and I finally retired them about 6 years ago. Now I have a new (er) pair. At one point I was dating a woman that was younger than my boots. She didn't see the humor in that as much as I.

As for break in, I always put them in the oven @200 deg. F for about 10 minutes then put a couple of coats of "Huber's Boot Grease". Back in the oven for another 10 minutes, take them out and put them on hot with a good pair of work socks then try to keep them on all day. The leather will be waterproof and will form to your foots shape
