Some new amps

In the past 24 hours I've acquired two new-to-me amps. One is Marvin's Usher R1.5 which is essentially a Threshold design. The other is a McIntosh MC2500. I'm hopefully going to be giving them some time in the next few days. I know the Usher likes some warm up time and wouldn't be surprised if the mac needs the same.

It is Marvin's old amp that he had listed here. We came to an agreement finally. So, now I have Marvin's old Usher amp, CP-6381, and his Mini Dancer 2 in house at the moment.

I feel a bit guilty having removed all the Usher from his house.

I agree, i probably would have bought that amp to drive the 1.2tls a while back but Marvin didn't want to ship(can't say I blame him)

you can find directions on the web to up the bias on the usher r 1.5 to more match the sound of the threshold designs, of course you will get more heat.

How’s your back after carrying them in. I’m not sure of the weight of the usher amp bu I think that Mac is 130 or 139 lbs.

Luckily I had help with the Mac. The Usher isn’t too bad as long as you have plenty of clearance to maneuver.

Nice: my first decent Mac amp was a 2500 and it up paired very nicely with my Polks for a few years. Yours looks to be in nice shape.

  • Very cool. I remember you saying that you felt the diamond tweets in the Dancer line would be a step up from silk tweeter in the CP-6381. And I'm sure that amp would give them plenty of power to provide all the slam needed. I'd love to hear that combo.
