Window's 10 Guru's..help needed

So, got a new 'puter with Window's 10. lst time user and quite a learning curve from 7. Anyway, have a light that is USB powered and when I put the computer to sleep it stays on and I don't want it to. Researched it a bit and fiddled with some settings but still stays on when put to sleep....

thoughts?

If the USB ports weren't powered during sleep mode how would you resume the PC from sleep mode? Your mouse and keyboard wouldn't work.

Poo, you be right...so guess I will have to figure out how to power it w/o going into the computer..thought there might be a way to specify a particular USB to not get power during sleep....

What's the light for? Can't you just unplug it?

You might check your BIOS settings, see if there's something in there.

You might be able to set the USB stuff to sleep after a while through advanced power settings configuration, and use the power button to wake the computer?

Use an old phone charger cube to power the light.

That's a BIOS setting typically, not Windows 10. The newer motherboards have this feature for charging phones, etc.
For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...

    1) Unplug the light
    2) Just turn the computer off :/

SK, I recently upgraded from Windows 7 to 10 also, so I feel your pain. Sleep mode only puts the computer into low power mode and closes the screen off. So you'll notice when you come off sleep mode any browser tabs apps you had open restart where you left them. Also your powered USB port would still have power going to it, hence your USB light not switching off. To switch your USB light off, you'll either have to disconnect it or shut down your pc. B)

Decided just to use an extension cord to run to my power center for the stereo gear and use a usb connector/adapter for the light. Don't like to shut the computer completely off as then I have to open all the sites I use during the day and to me its a PITA. I do shut it off every couple weeks to clear stuff out though...

    thanks for the help!

I will use windows 7 till I have no choice but to go to 10 or what ever they have at that time..

Both of the computers I purchased in the last year came with the windows 7 disk so I could down grade if I wanted, I have a huge hate for W10..

Up till I upgraded to a new laptop with Windows 10 I used a simple patch called Never 10 which blocks the annoying Microsoft pop ups and push-updates. Works a treat.
