Hey everyone My 7.2 currently consists of (see signature) was wondering if swapping out my A3 side surrounds with the Fxia6 would be better and would they need to be set in bipole or dipole mode for side surrounds?

Your gonna get a lot of answers one way or the other on this.

    Here is my take.

Replacing them may or may not help. Some folks prefer direct radiating speakers for 7.1 or higher setups. This helps you pinpoint where the sound is coming from. For movies mastered in TrueHD and DTS-MA they kinda assume your using direct radiating speakers. For older movies in Dolby Digital 5.1 they were mastered for JUST 5 speakers, so bipoles would help fill in the area behind you and provide a larger soundstage.

The dipole/bipoles help fill in the soundfield as well, but help more in situations where you ONLY have 5.1 (like my setup). I believe (and correct me if I am wrong) AVR's nowadays use software to shoot the 5.1 signal to all 7 speakers, which basically provides a similar (and possibly better) experience.

The Dolby setup guide has examples of both direct radiating and bipole dipole for both side and rear surround setups for both 5.1 and 7.1 setups. So its basically down to what sounds best to you.

You would likely need to try it to figure it out. But at the current Friends and Family price, I'd buy em to try it out.

As far as bipole or dipole, you have to see which you like better.

That's what I was thinking Enders buying them with my current friends and family code and selling whichever pair I like least as side surrounds, I see a lot of diagrams using direct firing as rears which I have wall mounted but using Bipoles as side surrounds, just waiting for a few responses I have until the 6th to use my code for the sale, man it's hard to make up my mind. Thanks for your response.

Nobody has compared the RTIA3s and the FXIA6s as side surrounds in a 7.1 or 7.2 setup?
