I recently bought some Monitor 5's. (See this thread http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?158808-Polk-Monitor-5-what-do-I-look-for-after-shippment)

I hooked them up tonight and sure enough no bass. The drivers appear to be seized, I can not push them in at all. Looks like they came loose during shipment!!

Are new drivers available? What are my options?

Help!

Rick

Pull a driver, get the model number, which will be MWxxxx. Post here what the model number is.

It looks like the 6502 is still offered by Polk. If you opt for new ones from Polk I think they run $48 each for members. If you call make sure you tell them you are a Club Polk Member and you get free shipping and the special price.

You do not have a high enough post count yet to check the sales area of this forum. The drives do show up from time to time for $25-30 each.

Thanks for the help Hofy & F1nut. I will call Polk tomorrow, amazing that they still have parts for these speakers. I have heard good things about them and have never really had any good speakers. I have just finished recapping/refurbishing a Pioneer Sx-850 and want to get rid of the crap Bose speakers that I am currently using.

    Thanks again

heh - that's why we moved to northern New Hampshire - clear and sunny (albeit cold) here today! When the glaciers melt, we'll have beachfront property, too! ;-)

Good luck y'all in the mid-Atlantic!

On topic - Polk's support of their legacy products is indeed admirable. Several companies are good in the sense that they make archives of documentation/information on their classic products available online (Electrovoice, harman/kardon, Yamaha, and Klipsch come to mind)... but not too many still provide parts for their 'heritage' products.

6502's seem to be a popular size on ebay.
For some reason I think I see those up more than any other MW.

It's a real risk these days with the MWxxxx drivers.
I had the same issue but I found my really rough pair on the side of the road.

Bought replacement drivers and I'm really glad I grabbed them.

Maybe you can get a partial refund if you bought them off Ebay?

    Guys

I had the same issue, I found the driver, only one, in Ebay, but I need 2, one is not good enough, so I did some research and I found someone with the same problem but he recommended "The Madisound Speaker Store" Misco 6102-4 6.5" Polypropylene Cone Woofer. It's a great speaker, and I paid 60 bucks shipping included for the 2 woofers, AMAZING service....

That driver isn't even close to the specs of the Polk original and on top of that uses a foam surround. You made a poor choice.

I'm sorry but too I have agree for just a little more $48 x 2 plus tax and free shipping you would have got the ones designed for that tweeter, enclosure and crossover
