I was looking for a set of these to go fully balanced with my DAC since the rest of my cables are Shotgun 3's.

So I called Joe Abrams (who I purchased all my MIT's from) just to see if there might be a set still around, well to my surprise he had a set of NOS, I was very happy..

Well I got them yesterday, opened them up to take a look, and I was quite surprised to see that the XLR's have plastic housings, the two sets I purchased a few years a go have metal housings, the plastic housings really give these expensive cables a cheap look..

I know they won't perform any different, just a little disappointed that MIT opted for them considering what one pays for them. Hi-END cables should have a HI-END look IMO...

That's strange. All the pairs of the XLR I have had all had metal. Do you know when they changed it? Mine were all s3 line so that's odd to me they would have changed.

I agree, if your paying a premium then they should have quality materials involved in the construction. Why would they change it to plastic?

I've never had use for the XLR IC's, but all the Shotgun RCA IC's and speaker cables I've had or have seen have plastic housings, which I don't think look cheap at all.

Larry, have you got the CAD program running to design new metal boxes yet?

Well, what can you say? Margins are slim for these cables companies so they have to cut a few connectors.

I don't think that is the case with MIT. Last year they had a huge price hike on their entire line. For example, the Shotgun S1.3 balanced is now $2899.00. When I bought mine a few years ago it was around $1600.
