So, there I was. Minding my own business....and I get a call from an old friend's dad. He's an older gent, fellow gin lover and audiophile. So, he is downsizing and so forth and would I be interested in obtaining his stereo rig. He hasn't listened in years and his children don't want it...etc etc. ME: I'm always interested in gear. It's been years since we talked audio, what exactly are we talking here? FRIEND: Well, I have a two pair of older B&W tower speakers, amp, preamp a sub that never has been used and a pair of B&W bookshelves that have never been connected....I'll get back to you on the model #'s.

So, I'm pretty jazzed. What the rig turned out to be:
B&W Matrix 802s3's, 803s2, DM600
Sunfire amp (300wpc), Sunfire sub, Parasound P/LD 2000 (top of the line in it's day)

Oh, and a pair of MIT Terminator 2 biwire cables....

I'm not even going to mention what the price....suffice it to say that it was a mere love offering.

It's been awhile since I've done any listening but I just got done unloading....and I'm ready to do some gear swapping.

I haven't been this excited about audio in awhile....

BDT

BTW, F1, I already know what you think of the Beemers. Just don't spit on them. Or kick them. ;-)

Me?....from what i have heard, i really like.B&W. I just bought a three channel system and although i paid a fair price, i have no doubt that you did much better...lol. i have owned dm 610i and they are really quite nice. 4 ohm and sealed large bookies that have a true tight bass and sweet mid. The highsare not bad either.

I've always been a Beemer lover. Just couldn't afford them. Never forget listening to Chris Rea on a pair of N801's driven by Krell gear at a hifi shop in Dallas with Russman. Hooked ever since.

There is certainly something about that "Aaaaaaaaaaa"moment. I had that with polk 8ts powered by an adcom gfa 555. After finally getting that combo, i heard a ton more stuff and so the saga.continues. hope.it never ends.....enjoy and enjoy broham!

I agree with Jesse on B&Ws...haven't met a pair I liked the sound of yet...

But that being said, that's a pretty danged nice score regardless of my personal feelings about the brand.
Even if you don't end up liking them, you could flip em for a tidy profit and buy something you did like (Again, being if you didn't like them hehe)

Same here...Always wanted an M3 , and had a serious hard-on for the 1995 540i M-Sport. I ended up getting a 1996 318Ti Sport. As expensive as I thought they were back then they are crazy expensive now. As far as speaker...The 801's powered by Krell was one of the first high dollar system that I listen to back in the day playing my own discs. I was just floored at the time. Then there was the Kef 107's powered by some Denon monoblocks with a Nakamichi Dragon deck playing Dave Brubeck Q "Take Five" and once again I was on the floor...LOL! I find it interesting how many don't like either of these speakers today. I would love to hear both again.

Hillcrest, I believe that was the place....

Pretty sure that these have all found a permanent home here.....Seems I am cornering the market on British speakers here between these and the Quads...

Sad that Hillcrest went under (bought up and closed by tweeter).
I've had a number of Brits through here. The Proacs are going to hanging around for a while.

I always thought the matrix would image very well with that tweeter on top.

Someone told me that the guy who designed the matrix series was the same guy that designed the technics sb7000...
don't know if there's any truth to that but they do at least look similar in design.

I got some B&W DM110's for $10. I did a little research and found out they are definitely entry level B&W's but for $10 why not. However, I am really impressed. They sound damn good. I would love to hear some of the finer B&W's!

    I'm currently running B&W's - CDM1NTs.

I know others just hate B&Ws, but I'm digging the sound - imagine taking the sparkle and detail of an RTiA3 and then melding that with the mid-range smoothness and musicality of an LSi7....bingo - CDM1NT.

Put an integrated amp with some oomph and nut grabbing control on the bottom end...pretty darn good in my book.

It's all good - enjoy the music!
