Hello all , This is my first post .
I was at Fry's the other day for my once a week fix and I decided to go by the audio room's for a good chuckle(bose) . I did a double take when I saw a full room of polk audio . They had every rti model setup and running . stacks of boxes were piled up on one side of the room. So are they carrying them now for the long term or is it a volume purchase blowout .

Josh-I don't know what a Fry's is so I can't help there, but welcome to the forum. Good to see ya know Bose SUCKS!
ChrisChris -
Fry's! wha? My local has some JAMO speakers but polk! oh we I gota go check this out.
-
Chris, Fry's is a store like Best Buy but larger and are staffed with people who cannot tell there **** from a hole in the ground.
I will not shop there. If Polks are there, my respect for Polk is droping rapidly. Fry's is a complete and utter joke of a store.
Last January, my last visit, I had to return a defective cordless-phone battery. I stood in line for over 1 hour. Fry's has about 40 registers for sales and about 4 for returns. So, to continue, as I neared the front of the line a guy in front of me went off on the store manager about length of time in the return line. The manager said, and I quote: "We are here to take you money, not give it back". The guy walked out, I took care of my return, then slammed one of there shopping carts with my truck into a block wall, just for some payback. Never to shop there agian.
**** FRY'S, They suck major donkey sack. Polk has sunk to a new low if there selling them there.
Peace Out~:DIf...
Ron dislikes a film = go out and buy it.
Ron loves a film = don't even rent. -
don't have any around here, but they sound like a ****-hole. i got pissed at LNT once with a return, and as i was walking out, the automatic door didn't open fast enough, so i threw my weight into it, and knocked it off the track. man, did i feel better...:D

Josh,
Were you able to find anybody at the North Highlands Fry's that even spoke English? I agree with Ron, that place is a joke. They also try to sell you items that have been opened as new. I have not been in a Fry's for almost 2 years and that time will continue to increase. I would like to hear from one of the guys at Polk about this. Polk has such great customer service, why do they want a reseller that has terrible customer service selling their product?

evan ,
I assume living in davis that your "local store" is the North highlands - Notomas store . Thats the store it was .
Ron ,
Don't hold back, tell us how you really fell .
Greg,
I agree that knowbody knows whats up there . I mainly go there to kill time . I will not buy electronics from them because half their stock is opened returns . I do buy mags and DVD's though.

To shop at Frys is a skill, no wait, just one rule applys.
1. You have to know exactly what you want to shop there.
You don't browse Frys, you don't ask questions, you go, you pick up, and you pay. Hopefully without saying a word to anyone that works there.

oh no the sac store!
ahhhhh damit, you are gona make me take a drive.
I had noticed that they had emptied out a number of rooms a few weeks ago.
I hate that frys.
well ... well ... does this mean we will beable to get polk from outpost.com? -
Sounds just like BB here. Was there for DVDs the other day and looked at the out of box sale. They had a few Sony DTV boxs with digital out. I asked this pimple faced kid(employee) how much, he gave me the price but said they didn't have the cards for them try next week. Hmmm wonder where they went, NOT. For anyone who has been or has BB near them whats up with the giant tire carts. I came accross a site for ex-employees of BB it was pretty funny what they had to say, I'll tr and find it again.
ChrisChris -
Wonder why no one from Polk has posted in this thread. Could it be they are too ashamed.
Peace Out~:DIf...
Ron dislikes a film = go out and buy it.
Ron loves a film = don't even rent. -
Me, ashamed? Naw. I have no control over this stuff, man. And I don't know if it's worth your time to differentiate between any of the big box CE retailers. Just don't go there if you don't like them (I never ever go to any of them). But don't knock the fact that Polk Audio reaches a HUGE audience at these places. It's called capitalism. More sales, equal better ultimate service and attention to stuff like product quality and customer cervix. One hundred and thirty nine other speaker manufacturers would climb over our crippled grandmothers just to be despised for being in a big box store. Don't like 'em? Don't shop there. But for some folks, it's all that's available.
Wish there were more ma & pa's, but those days seem fated.
MC -
I actually, completely agree with that. Who the fak cares where you get them? I believe the more people that hear Polks will by them which is good for everyone. Economies of scale and all that. To be perfectly honest, if Polk weren't at CC there are many that would probably be Bose, JBL or Infinity owners instead.
Deep down, admit it or not, every speaker company wants to sell more speakers. Polk has found a way to do it. And if the audiophiles want to look down their noses, eff them. Matt is laughing all the way to the bank and we have damn good speakers at a great price.

I too agree with micah! Get it to best buy and others too, so that everyone will hear good sound!
I know many friends who doesn't know polk audio, and iam taking them to tweeter and they really liked it and bought them. If we have it in Fry's or Bestbuy, i hope many will know what is the real experience -
And you hit the nail on the head: you have to know what you want when you go into these stores. If you know your experience is going to be trying, you have to be prepared to not interact with the staff. Go in, grab the stuff, and get out. You'll fine as long as you don't touch anything and don't rub up against any other customers.
MC -
I find that shopping in ma and pa's can be as trying as going anywhere else. Usually, they don't have what you are looking for and especially in audio shops you are usually treated like a leper. Peachtree Acoustics here in Chucktown is great but the other two audio shops, unless you climb out of a Porsche, you are treated like a leper.
The other thing is this, I understand that because they are small they have to charge more and that is fine to a certain extent. To an EXTENT, though. There is a hardware store just down the street from me, and if I need something small, I will go there and of course he always **** about how Lowes and Home Depot are putting him under and how he has been there for 30 years etc. Yeah, he has been putting the boots to people for 30 years. His markup is like 300 percent. Hell no, I am not going to pay 17 dollars for a paintbrush that I can get at Lowes for 7. Like I said, I will support the little guy to a certain extent but like a wise man once said, "don't piss down my back and tell me it's raining".

I know exactly how you feel. I loathe the fact that I shop at HD or any sort of big chain or big box store. I would far rather shop at a small personal store. But the deals are just better when there's a better economy of scale. It's part of our economic problem here in this country: We want everything, we want it cheap, and yet we are upset by the way we have to get it that way.
But that's the way it is.
Just don't buy anything "made in china" for goodness sakes.
MC -
I for one disagree with Micah.
Sure, Polk is in business to make money. But you need to draw the line between reputable companies and non-reputable, Fry's is the latter. After hearing the manager speak his thoughts, I have lost all respect for said company and will not, nor refer anyone to shop there. Fry's is pond scum.
Even Best Buy is a step up from Fry's. What's next...Walmart, Pic-n-Sav?
Peace Out~:DIf...

>> I for one disagree with Micah. <<
Surprise surprise.
But they sell Levi's at WalMart. Have you stopped wearing your jeans? They sell Black & Decker at Best Buy. Have you ditched all your power tools? They sell Hershey's Chocolate Bars at Fry's. Have you stopped eating chocolate? Come on.
If you don't like shopping there, don't shop there. But don't blame the brands -- especially a brand that goes out of its freaking way to desperately try to train and educate both salespeople and consumers -- for the lousy service.
MC -
Yeah, yeah, yeah...Micah
First off, I do not own any Black & Decker power tools, they are cheap crap. Levis, Chololate....slow down there chief, how can you compare a $20 pair of jeans or a .75 candy bar to a $400+ speaker.
When I drop that much cash for a speaker, I want it to be from a decent source. Which, I still can do.....so far. But when people see my speaker that I bought at a decent A/V shop at a crack house like Fry's, that right there says alot. Read this thread again Micah, most of the replies say exactly what Fry's is and that is fairly common. Now Polk is getting into bed with them.
Friend: "Nice speakers Ron"
Me: "Thanks"
Freind: "I saw those at Fry's"
Me: Drops head in shame
Reputation is more important than the allmighty dollar, read up on the reputaion of Fry's. You guys want your products accociated with these guys? Sometimes the allmighty dollar needs to take a back seat.
Peace Out~:DIf...

Ron loves a film = don't even rent. -
Hey! It's snowing! Did anyone notice that?
(cough cough) -
This place must be a real dive.....obviously we don't have them here on the east coast.
But as far as CC, BB, hell, even Wal-Mart.....for better or worse, that's where the action is at. At the end of the day, and I see both sides to this argument, still, I am going to go with the best product that I can afford and I will try to get it at the most reasonable cost.....as far as speakers go, if I dig 'em I could really give a crap less what anybody thinks of them or where I got 'em. Hell, I buy a lot of used stuff.
TroyI plan for the future. - F1Nut -
They don't have Levi's at my Wal-Mart.
Hey,...The snowflakes never hit the ground. I expected to see them piling up on my taskbar.....But if you move your mouse around real fast they fall faster...and if you type really fast they fall faster....
Okay what were we talking about.. Best Buy? China? Power tools? Sorry. -
I'd love to see Polks at Best Buy. I always go there to buy my DVDs, I almost never go to CC.
So, Micah, why not at BB?
Peace Out~:DIf...

Ron,
Refering to fry's as a "crack house" is the funniest thing I ever heard .
It's really not That bad . They have a great selection of oddball stuff. The bay area and socal stores are nicer than mine though. At least there is labeled isles . Here the trucks still say "Incredible Universe" on the side .

So do you not buy Toshiba? Sony? Philips? Panasonic? JVC? Apple? RCA? Fuji? Or any other brands that Fry's carries? Come on, gimme a break.
Brand loyalty is one thing, but not liking a brand because it's sold at Frys is another.
More money for Polk = more engineering and cheaper prices and better quality.
Pretty simple if you ask me.LSi 9/C/FX

dont know how many times i have asked simple ?'s and have them say " i dont know let me go see if i can find a owners manual.
sorry to rant but i have found it much easier to do the research my self or go to a specialized audio store(some times even then you will find a unknowledgeable sales person) i know that there are good sales people in these stores such as cc but they are very far and few
besides cc sells washer and dryers, fridges, cd's,movies, games and furniture it really is just a glorified sears electronic center
i have heard some horrible distortion coming from many a sound rooms and unfortunately from our fav speakers the polks. it just send this chill up my back like some one running their finger nails across the chalk board..
ok i am doneSpeakers:
Definitive BP7001sc mains
Definitive C/L/R 3000 center
Polk RT800i's rears
Definitive supercube I Sub
Audio:
Onkyo TX-NR3010
Emotiva XPA five Gen 3

I would like to point out that the 1st frys, the one on the peninsula, for some time carried Def Tech. And I dont frown on Def tech.
The only thing that concerns me is Frys rep. I mean it is REAL bad. But if it means more sales, OK. If it means Good Guys will get LSi then YEA OK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -

Monster, Mitsubishi and Sony.
You have the first two and used (if I remember) to have the third
Also you still have JVC and Sony
all of em at Frys -
I would not buy any of those or other brands that Fry's carries...ever.
Ok, here, I'll make it easier for you. I'll rephrase it.
I would not by any of those brands or other brands from Fry's.
Better?
